why is the object on the 5-25x 58mm and not available in 44mm? I've never understood this since the 22x has a 44mm option. Kind of strange. I've been looking at this scope as something to get but the 58mm objective is the one thing that really puts me off.

Your looking at a 5-25 SN3 T-PAL. The SN3 3.8-22 SN3 is not a T-PAL and has the focus adjustment on the objective rather than side focus like the 5-25 T-PAL does. I would assume the 3.8-22 has the smaller objective feature only because the objective rotates to adjust the focus and some guys prefer it be smaller. I could be completely wrong but from an observation that is what I would believe.

Stop being a puss and just buy the 58mm.

The all-seeing USO eye WILL be watching . . .

Probably because a 44mm obj with a 25x magnification would reduce your exit pupil down to under 1.8mm, and that is going to really limit both your eye box and the amount of light that is able to pass through.

^^
That'd be a solid answer. Under 2mm isn't a friendly exit pupil.

Especially with the side focus of the TPal things are different. As I understand it, mechanically the 5-25 becomes a 3.8-22 with the switch from Tpal to Ergo.

That said, as glock24 said, man up and get the 58! I run a 58 in both versions and like them both. Before people cry about mounting, both are in low 35mm rings....
