Rifle Scopes USO Hunting Scope Advice

I'm new to precision shooting and have been researching a scope for a new GAP non-typical build. I've researched extensively and I think I've narrowed it down to the USO SN3-1002, but wanted to get your advice.

The logic behind this choice; get a lightweight scope that I could customize. Definitely torn between weight and features though.

Should I worry about the ERGO upgrade on a 10x scope?

Also, I'm interested in the larger 44mm objective. Should I reconsider buying the larger SN-3? Some great deals on these in the forums too!

Ive had both the 44mm and the 37mm. Could not tell a huge difference. Another option if weight is more important than FFP/SFP - the Nightforce 2.5-10X 32mm scope is a little lighter.

the NF with 32mm objective isnt the best for low light conditions, like sitting in a deer stand....

Do you think the 37mm on the SN-3S would be adequate?

go with the 44 and you won't have to worry its not that much for the up grade

SingleShot85, I honestly didn't even think about the larger objective on the slimline version. I didn't see it as an upgrade on their website so I just ruled it out. Great advice, thank you!

USO doesn't list the 44mm Obj. as an option on the slimline model. Personally after having both, I did and will only get the 37mm in the 1.8-10.

My ST10 is 37, my 1.8-10 is 44. As far as light gathering I cannot tell much difference if the 1.8-10 is on 10x. As far as ERGO the ST10 focuses good for my eyes to about 50-60 yards and I shot it regularly to 600 when it was on my POF with no parallax issues. A good solid scope but I will likely sell it soon and get another 1.8-10 because I need a variable on the gun it is mounted on now. Do consider the EREK upgrade.

I have a 1.8-10x37 on my non typical and it works great. If I had to do it over again I would not change anything.

You will like the non typical hunting rifle and the full boat 1.8-10x37 is a great fit. George built my non typical and I have both an M40A1 and M40A3 both built by Eric Reid and I dare to say the non typical is as ac irate as both of the M40's. The USO can function perfectly as a tactical long range scope and the non typical can as well. Great choice!

Love the 1.8x10... My buddy just threw one on this season. So much lighter than my 3.2-17... My next scope buy for sure.

Go with the GAP reticle

Even the lightest USO scope is pretty heavy and big for a hunting scope. It depends on what is important to you,but I'd look elsewhere for something to top your non-typical.

IMHO the non typical is a very versatile rifle. Perfect hunting rifle and can server as a long range tactical rifle if you set it up correctly. The 1.8-10x37 works great for both applications, clear, bright, durable and customizable.

The 5 of the last 6 USOs I've bought used/ordered/used/resold/kept were 37mm fixed objectives. No complaints from anyone using them or in my own use, and I take the 37mm ST-10 to 1k with regularity.

I would not hesitate to run a 37mm on a hunting scope nor to clamp on my 1.5-6 USO for hunting. It is a bit heavy for hunting compared to other "hunting" scopes, but I've got so much time behind it and the JNG reticle out to 1k that the comfort with the system would override my concerns about hefting around a few extra ounces.

The 37mm is a) light, b) streamlined, and c) cheap when ordered as a fixed as opposed to Ergo. I had a specific price point in mind with my ST-10, that is less than the Lupy 10X Mark 4, which I meet AND have a far superior optic with matching knobs and reticle.

I was in the same dilemma as you, wanting a lightweight mil/mil scope for hunting, but the choices are slim.

The NF 2.5-10x32 is 19 ounces, about 6 lighter than the similar USO I think. The older 2.5-10x24 is 17 ounces. At a lower price point, the Weaver 3-10x40 tactical is about 16 ounces. You might want to talk to the Leupold custom shop and see if they can modify a VX-3 scope.

does the 37 mm gather light well? i feel like you should go bigger for sure if its for a hunting rifle. most of the hunting i do is in low light periods-sunrise and sunset.
