Hello all I am looking for new old stock or a very good used USO mount for a Sako quad. I have spoke to USO and they are no longer available. Or if there is a alternative to the USO mount that is drilled and tapped to the receiver I would be glad to hear about it.

I don't believe they are any current offerings on the market that are drilled/tapped to the receiver like the USO rail was.

The other choices out there are DIP and Murphy Precision, but both rely on the dovetail and setscrews against the top of the receiver to remain in place.

I'm sure Murphy Precision would make you a rail that would require drilling & tapping of the receiver if you asked, Cameron is really good about custom stuff.

Another option is to use an AI or Spuhr dovetail mount.

I had a dip (or whatever it was called before), or still do in a drawer somewhere... Thing would shift around on me, perhaps I was too rough on it somehow or I didn't tighten it enough... Ended up getting the USO rail at the time for one rifle, and on a second quad I went with the AI one piece mount directly to the dovetail and it seems to work without issue.

Never had the DIP rail move on either of my two Quads... but never felt real good about them, they felt "iffy" when torquing the setscrews.

Had Murphy Precision make a couple of rails to replace the DIPs; not because the DIPs moved but because I wanted more cant to max my scope out for shooting long range with the .22LR (had him make a 25MOA for my .17HMR and a 50MOA for my .22LR Quad.) The Murphy rails are steel while the DIPs are aluminum. The Murphy rail was a bit thicker and even though they used the same setscrew against the top of the receiver method of retention Murphy provided brass-tipped setscrews that bit into the top of the receiver checkering real well. Neither moved.

Both my Quads now wear AI dovetail Spuhrs. Even though I left the recoil pins out because they didn't line up in the right spot to catch the ejection port I've been running them for about a year now on both my .17HMR and .22LR Quad and they haven't budged.

If you want to drill and tap the receiver to guarantee the rail won't slip, I'm sure if you shipped the receiver to Murphy Precision Cameron could take care of you and make custom rail with screws in the proper locations. He may also be able to drill & tap your receiver while it's there.

I have the DIP rail on my Quad trainer/ sage rat gun and I shoot the heck out of that gun. It has never come loose... I red locktited it... but I always wonder. Should have done it right with the USO rail back in the day but I had already dumped so much money into the old girl I balked and went with the DIP. No slight to DIP they make great stuff.

If you don't mind please post what you decide to do.

I've put 1,000s of rounds throught my quad with a DIP rail and have never had a problem. The heavy recoil of the massive 22lr has proved no match for those little set screws :)
