Any one know how much more elevation travel the SN3's have with the 35MM tube. All I could find was the statement that it provides for more travel, but not how much more. Just currious as I just bought one off the shopper and will be mounting it on a 300 RUM I'm going to try shooting in One mile comp's. The rifle is set up with a 20 MOA base but I think I'll still need at least 30 MOA or more. Donald

Yea I'll need about 79-81 MOA to reach 1780 yards. Are you saying the total for the USO with 35mm tube is 90? If so then I'll have 110 with the base that's on the rifle as is. Donald

Won't it be different depending on which magnification the scope has? Since you're shooting so far I imagine you picked up either a 5-25 or 3.8-22.

Not to disagree with you, but a 20 MOA does not ADD to your MOA, it just takes MOA away from the down and adds it to the MOA up.
If your USO has 90 MOA total adjustment, that's 45 MOA up and 45 MOA down. Add a 20 MOA base, you now have 65 MOA up, and 25 down. It's still 90 MOA, the 20 MOA base did not add a thing.
If you do need 79-81 MOA you will need a 40 MOA base to get there. Add a 40 MOA base and you will have 85 MOA up and 5 MOA down, still only 90 MOA, if eveything is perfectly aligned.

Your correct Bob. JBM and Exbal both show about 74 MOA at 1750 and 79 at 1800. You throw in a 10 knot head wind and your looking at over 80 MOA. Really what I need is a Badger 45 but they do not make one for the Stiller Predator action I can find. I could use a Badger add on and get to 40 that way but then the scope is jack up like a Hoopdie car in lower LA. I have the idea I'm going to have to add a cheek piece like the Kartsen rest just hate to start drilling on such a nice A5 stock. So if a USO has about 45 up and you add two 20's your only at 85. Not alot to play with if it's a shit day. And I really hate to run a scope at max elevation like that. Could always shim the rear if things need a little help.

I think you need to do some reading on the EREK knob. He will have the full 90 moa up due to the EREK system. He does not need a 40 moa base.

I think you need to do some reading on the EREK knob. He will have the full 90 moa up due to the EREK system. He does not need a 40 moa base.

USMCj thanks for the reply. I was starting to confuse myself. I see that the instructions say that the EREK has about 80 MOA movement, I think that's just for the 30mm models. The comment about 90 MOA had me thinking that there maybe a gain of 10 MOA. But I saw that the instructions say that there's 90 clicks per revelution so I was not at all sure of this. So I'm back to how much more elevation will I have on a 5X25 SN3 with a 35mm tube. I'll just email USO and see what they have to say. I thought I might just get a quick answer here. I have an older sn3 on a 35mm tube and I believe I remember John Sr. telling me
it had a larger erector lens in it for light transmission. The 90 moa rings a bell but
I would have to check to be sure. I haven't shot long range with it for several years
as it's been on a night varminter.

I have an SN3 3.8x22 with a 35mm tube. It stits on a 20moa base.

No matter what you will have to hold the windage because at max elevation you won't have any adjustment. Like previously posted, I would consider holding the last bit. Unless you are going to deticate this rig to 1 mile shooting?

EREK system only allows you to move the erector position on the total travel of the knob. You can bottom out the knob for a pseudo zero stop, but then the elevation knob will continue to turn long after your erector quits moving. I have mine set just the oposite. The EREK knob bottoms out at the top when my erector is at max elevation. I do not have the zero stop at the bottom. You have to choose one or the other, or neither. JUst know the EREK knob system has more threads than the erector has room to move.

It's going to be my one mile gun only. I'll shoot it some times at 1000 but I've got two rifles that are better for that. I'd like to have some wiggle room at the top and as Rob points out I'd be stuck with no windage at top travel. So even if I can get to 80 to 90 MOA I'm still going to need alittle more to have adjustments for windage. I've never been to a LR match that did not have wind. So If I can get at least 30 MOA base and readjust the USO and get 80+ MOA I'm thinking I can in theory have 110+ MOA above the bore line. And as Bob reminded me I know I want have 110 in travel but I will at least be able to adjust at the upper end as if I did. It's a LR set up so I don't even care if I can't hit anything at 200 to 300 yards as I've got that covered in spades. Anyway guys thanks for all the imput. I was talking myself into thinking I was going to have to stack a 20 MOA base adaptor on a 20 MOA base and I was not liking the idea at all. Don, if its for a one mile only gun how about a SN9? These are built for one mile plus shooting. Specs say 120moa of elevation.

Tim I got the SN3 cheap and I'm running a non-EREK SN3 on my other GAP. I"m sure the SN9 is great but I've never had a chance to handle one so I just looked arround for a used SN3 as I'm comfortable with it. NO other reason. My really only other consideration at the time was a NF NXS but the SN3 showed up first. Donald

The USO erector with an EREK knob can be adjusted independent of the knob, so we are right back to the issue of how much ERECTOR travel the scope has, not how much the knob turns.
Talk to Near Mfg if you want a custom base for a Mile + rifle. This is not a scope erector travel issue.
