Hola, this is my first post and I have a few others eventually I intend to make after a bit more research.

Anyhoot I did use the search function and could not find what I was looking for. I am hoping someone would be willing to take me under there wing a little here as I am struggling with long distance shooting.

I am really looking for a great shooting location that will not be overun by other people quading / shooting etc. This is an issue when doing long distance shoots. I live in the west jordan / south jordan area in Utah and really do not want to have to drive 3 hours to get to a decent 1000 yard range.

There are places I can go out but they are long drives, long setups and the landscape is not ideal for previously mentioned issues. I hear rumors of private 1000 yard ranges and I am looking to make a few freinds in the distance shooting community as I am new to it.

I know of lee kays 300 yard range and the PMAA range up parleys with ability to see targets at 600 yards. However I am looking for something more be it out in the wild or a private range.

I know a fair bit about long distance shooting, I own a 338 LM but I am struggling with trajectory projections and the equipment to predict said.

Looking for some other like minded shooters in utah and better locations and possibly a minor mentor. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks in Advance

Re: Utah 1000 Yard Range??

Try using one of the ballistics programs to get a dope sheet (Data On Previous Engagements) for your rounds come ups at different distances. At 1000 yards, environmental, or atmospheric factors (temperature, humidity, altitude, etc) can make a big difference in your trajectory. Looking at what happens under different circumstances will help you out alot.

Re: Utah 1000 Yard Range??

A great place to shoot. North Springs Shooting Range, Price Utah. It's a nice range, lots of options, distances to 1000 and beyond. The times I've been there was for competitions, but I didn't notice any problems with lots of people. If I lived closer to that place I would spend a lot of time there. Great range!

Re: Utah 1000 Yard Range??

Thanks for the range location in price its an hour drive still but that range seems to be a very sweet setup.

I am definatly going to have to check it out.

Re: Utah 1000 Yard Range??

Darn it google maps lied to me, I should have paid more attention was at work when I checked the data. Its actually about 2 and a half hours from my house. I do not think I will be heading out there very often. But that is probably one of the nicest ranges I have read about in utah thus far.

Anyone else have some range suggestions or even out in the field nice and flat locations?

Re: Utah 1000 Yard Range??

Wish I was 2 1/2 hours from there, I'd go every chance I got. I'm about 14 hours away and I still try to go once a year. If you get a chance go and shoot there. They have a lot to offer, from 1000 yrd plus, to a shoot house, to movers, turners, in trees and canyons, lots to offer. And it's cheap. 5 bucks a day if I remember right. It's a county owned facility and they have put a LOT of money into it in the past few years. The crew there keeps the place very clean and squared away.

Re: Utah 1000 Yard Range??

Ya its definatly a very very nice range and there is one about 2 hours in the other direction too that looks pretty good as well.

However I have found my spot and was out there last week.

Skull Valley Utah by submarine rock, just google maps it for anyone else in SLC looking for the closest flat long distance place you can go easily the landscape is much longer then you probably can shoot out there.

I just returned from North Springs having spent the day with DesertRatDad and others. It was my first time down there, and all I can say is that it's a world class facility. They really put a lot of thought and planing into this range. I've never seen so much steel in my life.

From Salt Lake it's 2 hours to Price, even with the Utah County I-15 mojo. After Price it's another 20 minutes or so. I drive a Toyota Tacoma, and made down and back on a tank of gas.

You can camp at the range and they have flush toilets nearby. Check them out online

As far as Skull Valley goes, great place. For that matter, anywhere in the west desert is great. Just remember that everyone is looking for a short drive from SLC for agood time; that includes atv guys, mtn bikers, rock hounds, etc. Keep that in mind when you are selecting a spot on public land
