What are you guys using for a vacuum sealer? I was using a food saver and it took a dump on me, so I need to replace it. Just looking for ideas of what to get and what to stay away from.

Re: Vacuum sealer

I had an old Foodsaver that I got used about 10 years ago. That thing just went TU on me. So I think they are well made.

I just upgraded to a new foodsaver sportsman model, its gray and says for heavy use. So far I put up about 100 lbs of salmon fillets with it, does great.

It all dpends if you want to spend $200 or $1500.

A couple hundred get a food saver, a couple grand and you can get a commercial unit that uses the thick bags.

Re: Vacuum sealer

I have a Foodsaver model that is silver/gray. It has put up loads of birds, deer, and fish over the last 5 years and is still going strong. I'd say money well spent at less than $200.
On the flip side, my friend had a Foodsaver and wore it out. He spent a bit more on a Cabela's commercial grade and loves the thing. He shares it with his family, easily putting up 4 or more big game animals and tons of birds each year with no issues.
I suggest going with what your budget allows.

Re: Vacuum sealer

I used to use 2 food savers because one was not fast enough. We put up a bunch of deer, fish, hogs, etc. I went to the Cabela's commercial a few years back and it is great. I think the Food Savers are not bad at all but slow and not as durable.

Re: Vacuum sealer

If you want quality, get a chamber vac sealer. This is the one I have and would reccomend it to anyone looking to do a lot of sealing.

The upfront cost is much higher, but it will pay for itself in time because the bags cost 1/3 as much as typical foodsaver bags. I shoot at least 10 deer a year and 3-5 hogs, so depending on your situation, it might not make sense cost-wise.

+1

The vacmasters are hard to beat. Ours is the VP210 and it just works.
