This is a varmint AR built primarily for shooting between 100-400 yards. That being said the actual usage will probably be as follows:
50% - Paper at 100yd
25% - Steel at 300-500yd (I'd like to casually play at 600-800)
15% - Rabbits at 100-400 yards
10% - Stroking and admiring
Here are the [important] parts I have purchased/ordered so far:
Kreiger fluted threaded 20” 1:7.7 HBAR barrel
Geissele SSA-E 3.5# trigger
Magpul PRS Stock
Troy 15” VTAC BattleRail Alpha
Yankee Hill Stainless Q.D. Phantom Suppressor
Daniel Defense A4 Upper Assembly
LAR Grizzly Lower
These are the four areas where I need some help making up my mind:
1) Optic – “Vortex PST FFP 4-16x50” or “Vortex Viper PST FFP 6-24x50” – I want a mil/mil optic with FFP reticle and zero stop. This will be my first accurate rifle and first descent optic, so I figure I’ll go the “cheap” route for now and if I need to upgrade I can sell it when the need arises (and when I'm more confident that I know what I actually want).
2) Optic Mount – It will either be an American Defense Recon or LaRue mount (both QR). Is one lighter than the other? Which should I get, and is a 20 MOA mount appropriate?
3) Bipod – Clearly it will be either a Harris S-BRM or the Atlas BT10-LW17. I would like for the bipod to be easy to remove without tools. The atlas has the quick release lever that is appealing, but the Harris can be taken off in under a minute. Right now I’m leaning toward the Atlas.
4) BCG – This won’t be a high round count rifle, so I’ll probably just buy the first parkerized M16 BCG I can find, unless you tell me otherwise.
Let me know if I am missing something, or if you have specific recommendations for the items listed above. I know enough to know, that I don’t know enough to make some of the decisions on my own, so I’m very open to your input.
