I bought a new ground hog rifle a month or so ago and finally broke down and bought a NF scope(3X15X50) for the rifle. Everybody kept bragging up these scopes. So I finally had to have one.
Now I have alot of different optics. But most all my varmint optics are Leupold. I have tried some Bushnell Elites and Sightron's. As well as a few others. I own several Zeiss and Swaro., but not on my varmint rifles.
One of the biggest problems with varmint hunting is the sun. Usually a setting sun is a good time for the ground hogs to come out. And sometimes you have to hunt into a setting sun.
The other night the sun was full, and just over the trees. The groundhog came out in the deep shade at about 350 yards. It was all I could do to make him out with my 8X56 Swaro. binoculars. I found him. Then put the binoculars down. I switched over to the rifle. I always keep it on 6X until I find my target. I found the ground hog instantly and was very impressed with how well he stood out in the lighting situation. I would have never picked him up that fast and clearly in my Leupold. I then turned the NF up to 15X with instant clarity of target.
Then about 5 minutes later another ground hog showed up. Directly in line with the sun. The sun was at about 7 or 8 o'clock to the ground hog. Almost impossible to pick up in my binoculars with the glare of the sun.
I put the binoculars down and picked up my rifle again. And again the NF optics were perfectly clear. And showed absolutely zero glare from the sun. I don't think I would have found that ground hog with my Leupold scopes.
I really like Leupold. But if this NF keeps doing things like this?? Plus the tracking has also been perfect so far??
I don't know if I can afford it. But I am going to be switching some varmint scopes to NF. Tom.
