I'm liking it and it would be a good option for sure. If you get the 12x with the range enhancers it should work pretty well.
You're not going to be as good as either one standalone but I know where you're coming from. Keep in mind you only really need a Kestrel to give a phone app the environmental conditions if you run a phone app. Many of those are great and will save you a bunch right there. So any means of measuring station pressure and wind will get you a long ways.
Spotting at longer ranges can always be difficult and can vary day to day with lighting and dirt conditions so it's hard to give a blanket statement.
