I bought 500 rounds of this ammo to try out. I shot 50 rounds this weekend. I am very impressed with the accuracy, but a little disappointed with the velocity.
I was shooting an AR with a SS 18" 8-twist barrel with 5.56 Nato chamber. Temp was 55F. DA was ~370.
My first mag I decided to try going right to steel targets between 225 to 540 yards using my dope for 75 gr PPU. I started out missing most targets beyond 325 yards until I realized that I was hitting consistently low and began holding high on the targets.
I then shot a couple groups at 225 yards (my zero range for this rifle). The groups were well under MOA, hovering between 1 and 1.5 inches at 225 yards. However, impact was approx 1 inch low compared with where the PPU 75's hit.
I then chrono'ed 10 rounds. Average velocity was 2525 FPS. This is 95 FPS slower than my rifle averages with the .223 pressure PPU 75 gr ammo.
While the accuracy was great, I'm kind of bummed about the low velocity. I can't really complain given the price and accuracy level. However, this is advertised as 5.56 pressure, so I did not expect it to shoot substantially slower than the relatively slow PPU stuff. Can anyone tell me if this is standard for the run-n-gun ammo, or if I maybe just got a slow lot?
(On a side note, I also bought several different .308 loads and they are all outstanding in both accuracy and velocity)
