Where's the vid? Also, that's an odd assignment to give an 8th grader. That's something I'd expect to see in elementary school.

My sister is an athlete at an Ivy League school. She was told by her coach that if she doesn't take a knee during the anthem that she will not be getting any playing time. She's a freshman and a starter. She had her choice of just about any school in the country and has been bullied to the max by the liberal scum of her school. She has since put her coach on notice that she will not be part of the team next season. I applaud your Son.
Seems like it'd be easy enough to do a lesson on entrenched hierarchies and inequitable/unjustified power structures without it being so... whatever that was. I get that the presentation is supposed to be more conversational, but it comes off as a lopsided rant that doesn't even dig into the interesting bits.
I don't know man.... I was in this same situation in high school and again in college. I'd bring up the Barbary slave trade, how slavery still exists in Africa, native colonial slave traders in Africa, current crime statistics, etc. Everything omitted from school curriculums that needs to be mentioned and isn't. It's a bold move that may cause hardship and likely won't convince anyone anyway. In retrospect, I kind of regret it.
Arguing with a liberal is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how you well you do they're just going to shit all over the board and strut around like they won anyway.
If he must, make the argument as academic as possible. Steer clear of stating your personal opinion and instead present an open argument with lots of quality citations supporting your position. And tread lightly. Libs rule the world of academia and it's tough to take on the worlds problems at 13.

Lol! No my only “big city” times were surrounding Houston Growing up.. I was white so always the underdog. Would now be a good time to bring up all the racially motivated assaults I went through in public schools.. or how I saw a Mexican gang member force another male to preform sexual favors in my middle school courtyard at one of the three lunch breaks? Or that the one cop on campus had stuff like this going on and obviously couldn’t protect us but still stopped me to check my leatherman pouch expecting to find a little blade inside some folding pliers. When did regular schools get police officers on campus daily? Cause this was in the 80’s. And that cop would only mess with the good students. Everyone knew who the gang bangers were but nothing ever happened. Public school sure taught me some important lessons.

The gov in the 80’s was using things like dare to try and turn kids into snitches on their own parents by telling kids about people overdosing and jail and being way to informative about things that the PARENTS should be dealing with. I could go on but I fear I am just rambling. Public school taught me all the English and spelling I know.. which is hopefully above average but the bar is set kinda low as a country as of late..

I've never made anyone join a gang, wear their pants down their ass or speak in a dialect that makes them unemployable. I've never either systematically denied local level transportation services that encourage labor mobility, halted the proliferations of shops and services that afford healthier lifestyles and better choices, or behind the guise of a political party that cares' , created a political system that coddles and provides welfare instead of policies that are both 'stick and carrot' that will create aspirations and compulsions to 'do better'.
The real uncomfortable truth is the complicity that exists between minorities and political parties that want to vilify and/or coddle them whenever expedient and the erosion of personal accountability. THat and people take most of their perspectives on 'news' from douchabg talking heads at Fox and CNN.

This!!!! 100X but in this case the pigeon has the power to grade your son and pass word of his attitude problem to the rest of high school.
Not critical of your son for telling the truth, but be ready for a hard path. It's easy to parrot back their ignorance and get easy straight A grades. You can still think what you think, but there is no bonus points for telling them anything they don't want to hear.
Basically if you think it has to be changed, you can not leave it to an eighth grader, you have to run for school board.

For anyone on this post or anyone that agrees with the response, it is worth reading Discrimination and Disparities by Thomas Sowell. Originally publish March 2018 by a black PhD economist. A lot of facts to back up that maybe we are not all a bunch of racist bigots that oppress people. I am about half way through myself, and it is thick but good reading. A lot of brain power required to take it all in.
This issue is not a binary as each side would have you believe. We don't want to be found guilty of the same willful ignorance we accuse the other "side" of having. It's OK to have an open and honest discussion, but both parties need to act in good faith.

The whole topic of slavery is far more complex than black/white.
There were people like Kamala Harris’ ancestors who owned imported slaves in the Caribbean.
There were Native Americans who owned African imports and freedmen who were freed before the Civil War even in the South by Spaniards and French (Creole).
There were black Confederate regiments who fought for the South.
There were still slaves in the North, although the Northern States practiced both immediate or gradual emancipation through 1860.
Abraham Lincoln didn’t recognize blacks as full humans, but felt that blacks still needed to be freed from enslavement.
Most everyone in the world in the 1800s considered not only most African tribes, but any aboriginal peoples as savages-not complete human beings with the same faculties, but more of a half-man, half-animal. That included the Chinese, Japanese, Europeans, and Russians.
This concept of savages also applies to aboriginal peoples within empires, where they were viewed as less than human.
Even the Romans treated the people in Germania and the British Isles this way during their conquests.
Even my Finnish-side ancestors were labeled savages by Roman explorers centuries ago.

At the age of 16, I traveled to school with a shotgun in my car and took my hunter's safety course at my school. They even had a 22lr shooting club. All this in Baltimore City Maryland.
I agree that we need to educate ourselves and not be ignorant of the issue, and I will even add that you need to be sensitive to the feeling of others as using facts as clubs on others opinions is a good way to end up lonely.
I will disagree with this not being a (mostly) binary issue. There is a lot of political and financial motivation to stir up this topic, and the facts used are always incomplete to just tell the narrative. For just one example, have you ever heard crime statistics of all races included when they talk about black incarceration rates? It is always Black vs white compared to their percentage of the population in the U.S. Never hear about Asian or Hispanic incarceration rates. Why? It doesn't fit the narrative. This does not mean we do not have people who are racist, or that the police are never at fault. There are areas we can improve, but it is far from what is stated in the video at the beginning of this thread. The solution to the problem is not simple, but prioritizing education will always reduce criminal activity and increase the average income. I have yet to hear one politician suggest that we pay for the first few years of college for all black kids as a solution, but no one will argue that going to college will not improve the life outlook for someone (for something useful, no basket weaving).

My grandpa tells stories of buying dynamite at the local hardware store at his lunch break, storing it and the caps in his locker then taking them with him on the bus. Not sure what age he was, but not high school. Now if you get caught with anything more than nail clippers in your pocket you might get dragged out in handcuffs. Nail clippers might even get that now.
This guy talks about oppression, he, nor his race has an exclusive right to claim that. We were so poor when we moved to Baltimore (1964) from WV that my mother had to cut up a white sheet to make my brother gym shorts for school. The house we moved into was a dump. The back wall of the house was separating from the rest of the house. We were made fun of because of our West Virginian accent. My dad lost his business in WV and we came to Baltimore almost penniless. He couldn't find a job because of the way he talked. This wasn't like today.

I hear you. We had what I'd call "no go zones" where gang activity was rampant. They still exist to a lesser extent, especially in areas like hunt's point. People in the projects hated the police and would throw stuff out of the windows at the police down below. My buddy is still an NYPD officer and got hit with a BICYCLE from above. They'll go into those projects when they're called because they have to, but prefer to keep a safe distance whenever possible and I'm not sure I can blame them. It's easier to patrol less dangerous areas and leave the animals to themselves. You can't rely on law enforcement for protection. Despite the "serve and protect" motto, it's really not their job.
