I'm a pretty big fan of the old laser sights. These were the hottest thing going in the late 80's and early 90's. In 1984, Arnold's long slide AMT Hardballer with a laser sight in Terminator got the ball rolling. While a true functioning laser, there was a line running from the laser to a cable that connected to an external power supply. To fire the laser, Arnold Schwarzenegger had to reach into his coat pocket with his other hand and flip a switch.

This leads to the topic of my next build. The 1985 episode of Miami Vice, Season Two, episode "Bushido". This features a deep cover Russian sleeper agent. In the climax of the episode he is armed with a CAR-15 with a 90 round MWG drum magazine and Laser Products Corporation Laser sight.

I've been looking for a vintage LPC sight, but to no avail...so I have to build one. I already have an NFA registered CAR-15 and an MWG 90 round drum mag.

Rick, I've got a Laser Devices Inc under barrel unit - happy to take some photos and measurements if they'd be of help to you! Near as I can tell everything should function, but apparently those old helium powered lasers need to sit in a sealed, helium rich environment to "recharge" them. I haven't yet done that, but it's a very cool piece of laser history!

I'd be happier if you'd sell it to me :) . I'm good on the dimensions from my research.

I had a friend that recorded Miami Vice episodes on VHS. We’d party with our classmates Friday night (gravel road outside of town near where I used to shoot/plink), snag frozen pizzas on the way to his house, and watch the episodes around 1 or 2 am.

I bought my wife the MVice boxed set for Valentine’s Day long ago. It was a joke because we don’t exchange gifts for that day. I ended up with Monster Jam tickets for Father’s Day that year. We enjoyed both.

First laser I experienced was the size of one of those sights, minus the sight barrel/tube. May have been larger and had to be plugged into the wall. The dude that owned it said you had to be careful due to its power - it was bright. That was most likely around 79-80.
