You’ll fit right with any USMC precision weapon, esp with any M40 series rifles.Next question.
Is there a match that allows M40A1/3/5 rifles? Maybe my previous question about the “vintage” sniper rifles doesn’t apply.
Although Unertl went under in 2008, Remington still exports and supports the M24 with Leupold 10X scopes. Japan and Israel carry them.Seems odd that a Unertl 10x wouldn’t be considered vintage. Or, at least obsolete.
Fixed 10x is capable, for sure. What I said was more a reference to the BDC and MOA knobs paired to a Mil reticle (not unlike the Ultra/Mk4 on the M24, I guess) in comparison to more modern optics.Although Unertl went under in 2008, Remington still exports and supports the M24 with Leupold 10X scopes. So ... not necessarily the Unertl itself, but the fixed 10X is still in (current) modern issue.

No, newer optics aren’t necessarily better, but I do consider them more precise. I’m just surprised the M40A1/Unertl doesn’t fit in the “vintage” category of the rule book.
Sadly nothing like this takes place in Canada. I'm trying to start this sort of thing here but it's an uphill battle.
No more gun projects! This sounds like a REALLY good reason to build an ‘03A1 with a Criterion barrel, and a new Malcom scope with the upgraded mounts. If you don’t have one,,, I think you may really enjoy it. They are unbelievably capable rifles. VERY hard to shoot consistently from a sling and coat, but off bags these things rival modern rifles, albeit with a ehhh trigger.
No more gun projects!
Besides, I already have a Unertl 8x USMC SNIPER and the corresponding M1941 Springfield.
I just wanna shoot my A1!
FYI, the Quantico matches have 3 categories: vintage, Vietnam and Modern. CMP does not have a “modern” category. Anything after Vietnam is considered “modern.” Its best to have a partner who is using a rifle in the same class.I’m just surprised the M40A1/Unertl doesn’t fit in the “vintage” category of the rule book.
Surprised the Canadian NRA can’t help. Are they as feckless as the modern US NRA?
Hell Bring the FBI gun, I’ll shoot mine if you shoot yours, lol!Well then, I’ll be in the area for awhile so I’ll bring an A1 and an A5.
Thanks.
I’m already on my way to Quantico. I left the FBI guns at home…..Hell Bring the FBI gun, I’ll shoot mine if you shoot yours, lol!
