I'm about to order a package from Victor at TNVC, and we discussed using visible lazer designators with the pvs 14. He said they would not damage the tube to use them with the nods, I have a green laser unit that's <10mw. Just wondering if you guys have used this setup? It'll take at least a month for my civilian legal dbal to come in, and I'm wanting to get shooting before that......
    Thanks in advance,
    Phillip

Hi ya, we did discuss vis. lasers, and we were talking about the DBAL I2 Class 1 with the 5mw vis. With a 10mW system, while still technically safe with your 14 per say, do not train you NOD on a close in painted target as you may burn an image on your intensifier tube.

Just use caution if on a stationary target and do not hold your 14 onto the area for long periods of time. Hope this helps.

wasn't there Thread once or Post where guys were taking the more powerful green visible Lasers .
& then retrofitting ( Photo film ? ) or Photo filter ?? . in front of Green .
to make it more NV compatible & safer on he NV . I remember reading that here or somewhere with those hotter Green beams & NV .
    .

Re: Visible laser and the PVS-14

I knew I read something like that .
I got a couple IR units but I have played around with the different visible lasers & NV & those GREEN are friggin Hot & bright . You need strong beam but filters sounds like a good way to tame them down a little until a guy can get some traditional NV IR to use .

The auto-G function seems to control & regulates a lot of bloom on the weaker production Red lasers . & is not that big a deal when pointing them around under the NV .
but playing with the Green models , is way to much for them to handle .

    add:
Having use the Autogated circuitry for a few years . it is pretty impressive . but more than just controlling ambient light bloom .
several times ,Sitting out several hours in the Dark late mornings hunting . Then not moving or turning down the manual gain as morning sun starts to creep-in .
Auto-G circuitry , Amazing how it totally takes command of your NV-unit & you can totally ride-out the approaching daylight & touch nothing . It does it all .
In that Wierd twilight slot of time . between Dark & daylight . is when you can see it working & regulating incoming light best .
    .

ASM1 and I have both done this VERY successfully. It works very well when you have no other laser options available to you.
Vic is very correct about what will happen if you use too bright a laser up close on a highly reflective target about the damage to a NVD. This is why I have told others the class 1 laser Vic sells is the best laser I have used with NVD's.
