anyone have any reviews of these? All i own are leupolds, some hunting models, and 2 MK4's. Are the vortex line of scopes any good or should i just jump into a nightforce?

Re: Vortex optics?

They are great scopes, good value across all price points, wouldn't hesitate in getting one at all.

At the NF price point you can get yourself into a FFP Vortex Razor HD and you'll be very happy you did.

For less money you can also look into the SWFA SS 5-20 HD which are also FFP. The non illuminated version can be had for about $1k and are a bargain at that price.

Re: Vortex optics?

I own both a Vortex Viper 4-16x PST and a NF 5.5-22 NXS. To my eyes, the NF glass is a bit better being slightly clearer and crisper. I also prefer the NF zeros stop. I prefer the Vortex illumination control to the NF. I also like the weight of the PST vs the NXS for hunting applications, and I like the FFP aspect of my PST. I also prefer the zoom ring of the PST over the entire ocular bell moving on the NF. All in all, both are great scopes IMHO, and the Vortex has similar features to the NF and is a great value for the price. YMMV

Re: Vortex optics?

If you want a nightforce, get a nightforce. But to answer your question, yes, for the money, vortex is great. I have 3. I have 2 vipers and 1 viper pst. For the money, they are good scopes. That being said, if you want a nightforce, save and get one. It is definitely an upgrade, but vortex is still a great scope. My 6-24x50 pst cost around $900 and is close (not trying to start an argument here) to the same as my 5.5-22x50 nightforce that comes in at around $2000. The difference is the glass clarity. If you hold them side by side the nightforce has a slight advantage. That being said is that slight advantabe woth 1 grand more? That my friend is up to you. I don't think you can go wrong in either direction. Good luck and I am sorry if I confused you more.

Re: Vortex optics?

I totally agree with the previous poster. I have a Vortex Viper 4-16X50 PST and 5 Nightforce scopes to compare the Votex too. However if I was going to a place were the scope would be subjected to harsh conditions the Nifgtforce would be my choice hands down.

Re: Vortex optics?

vortex has an unconditional transferable lifetime warranty as well. PSTs come standard with zero stops and illumination. You will also like their magnification detents as well. Their fiber optic zero marker is a neat feature not offer in other scopes as well. CS is a pleasure and easy to deal with.

Im a vortex fanboy for sure.

Vortex PSTs hold their resale value very well and I have seen cases of some used ones sell at full retail due to supply/demand.

Re: Vortex optics?

I have 4 Razors, a 2.5-10 PST and a 1-4 PST (shipped yesterday).

I really like the 5 I currently have, their customer support is second to none, and they are certainly listening to the customers for feedback on improving the product lines.

You won't be disappointed in them at all. I don't own any Nightforce scopes anymore and I used to own 4 of the NXS series.

Re: Vortex optics?

Never heard of them.
There aren't any reviews on this website concerning Vortex optics, so don't waste your time with the search function located on the right side of this page.

Re: Vortex optics?

"Nightforce hands down has better glass and a way better zero stop. But for almost half the price, the pst is a fantastic value."

The PST is not the Vortex equal to the Nightforce NXS. The Razor is what you want to compare to. At half the price the PST comes in at a close second, but the Razor when comparing apples to apples is number one.

I sense a little sarcasm there. Thanks for the pointer buddy

Re: Vortex optics?

Mimic what JasonK said earlier and a lot other guys.

Good optic for the money and excellent Customer Service.

Been running my 2 Razors in Matches for about 2yrs now, with only minor issues.

Re: Vortex optics?

Of course you like the glass in your NF over the PST glass. However, had you compared it to the Razor Line of Vortex... aahh... Not so much.

I haven't looked through the glass of any vortex line let alone a NF

Re: Vortex optics?

There have been some posts with people complaining about the glass being dark. My PST has absolutely clear glass and the turrets adjustments are rock solid. The only down side is using a shim pack to set the zero stop.
