Rifle Scopes Vortex pmr vs vortex pro

Vortex Pro rings are vertically split rings, if you mean the newer horizontally split Pro Series rings I'd say if you are on a budget or just casually shooting at the range with only sporadic matches thrown in they will probably serve you just as well as the PMR's. If you want some of the best rings on the market and the peace of mind that they're machined true and are unlikely to fail then it might be worth the extra price bump. There are also height differences between the two lines in rings of the same diameter so that could factor into the decision too. 30 mm Pro Series come in .90, 1.0, 1.26, and 1.54 inch heights where the 30mm PMR's are .87, .97, 1.26, and 1.45 inches. Not a huge difference but if someone is looking to get their scope to a specific height it could come in to play. Also, if you're looking to save a little money on PMR's, search for the Seekins Precision equivalent, Seekins manufactures the PMR rings for Vortex, you can usually get them a little cheaper that way.

Good luck

Trigger pretty much covered it. My match rifles wear Seekins/PMRs but the new Pro Rings are a good ring for the $60 price tag. Have a set on a PST 5-25 and they hold well and are nicely made, which is in the USA as well.

What's the use going to be for the rifle?

For now the rifle will be used for target shooting/hunting.. looking to upgrade to an amg soon. Want some better rings and 20moa base. Still trying to figure out what height rings I would need with the pmr's

So you will have to add height as that base now looks like it is integral to the action. Is that true?

Then I would go a little higher than you have now. I have my AMG in .97" height rings on a 20 MOA base and it had plenty of room but not too high. A good height in my opinion.

My advice from owning several Tikkas would be to get your 20 MOA base first, not all bases are machine the same and so you may actually be picking up some extra height depending on which base you buy so I would get the base and swap it out then check how much space your current scope and rings have over the barrel and then you can make the decision of whether to go up or down in ring height from there

I am putting a set of the new pro rings on my 110 Savage I am fixing up. They are made from the same stronger 7075 Aluminum as the PMRs and if you have a way to lap these pro rings, I don't see why they would be any worse. Of course mine are only going to hold a 3-15x44 PST. If you have $2K+ spent on an optic or one of the gen 2 Razors that weight a ton, maybe PMR's aren't such a bad plan.
