Rifle Scopes Vortex PST Gen II

I don't care for the glossy looking finish and the internal travel is disappointing. However, if the 1-6 gets good reviews and holds up I could see myself with one of those.
I was thinking the 1-6 would be a nice optic for my 300 blk AR, but was hoping the 3-15 would be a good fit on my RPR.
hopefully theres an improvement on glass and eye box. We will see what the future holds on the gen 2. Imagine if they use similar glass as their gen 1 razors? =)

I believe there will be a definite improvement in glass, but keep in mind these scopes are coming in under the price of the Burris XTR II and Bushnell Elite Tacticals. If the glass quality is close to those two competitors I will be pleasantly surprised and if the turrets are good then we might have a real competitor at a price point more shooters can afford.
I got my hands on a 3-15 SFP model briefly this weekend. I've not owned a lot of scopes at that price point, but I felt like it offered quite a bit for its price.
The turrets felt good. I was just inside but the glass was crisp and at max power the eyebox didn't seem tight.
For my purposes I'm thinking it may be a good companion for my 308 gasser.

I'd like to pick one up for a varmint 223 Tikka... Maybe a 3-15x44, I'll wait till they get into people's hands first and see what the general opinions are before I bite... I had a 5-25 ordered at first and canceled my order for an ATACR F1 4-16..
My buddy checked them out at shot for me as I'm needing an optic for my RPR 6.5. Glass is still made overseas. He told me to pass. I bought a razor amg instead. I value his opinion as he has looked through hundred of different optics over the years without being one sided or prejudice towards a company.
They're up for grabs on optics planet it would appear. Interested to get some field test results.
Not really a fair comparison is it, one scope that will sell for about 1K and the other that sells for over 2K
Sorry for being vague. One of the others in that price range was a NF shv f1 4-14x50 which I've looked through one and almost bought. Around the same price but a big noticeable difference in glass (which is very subjective as we all have different eyes). Reason I went with a amg was its warranty, 100% us made, and the new techniques used by vortex to precision match and laser align the lenses in the scope (according the to 2017 catalog I have from them and videos). I figured the scope could be used on more then one of my rifles if needed. I admit it's an investment but for the price I believe your getting a 3k-3.5k scope and I paid 2200 for mine
No the glass on the Gen II is better than the original PST. A good deal of upgrade on this new scope.
Rob, I had "heard" (grain o' salt-type "heard") that the glass in the G2 PST's is better than the G1 PST's but is still not up to par with a G1 Razor, do you know if this has any validity? Maybe you or one of the Vortex guys can clarify? Turrets look much improved over the G1 turrets. Vortex strikes again!! HAHA!!!
The Razor Gen I always overperformed in terms of dollar/performance ratio, so I'm not sure that's a great comparison.
I wouldn't hold my breath for the Viper G2 having the same or better glass than the Gen1 Razor, but I would certainly expect it to close some of the gap from it's predecessor. The revised turrets look really nice as well. Definitely looking forward to some field tests and real world experiences. Much like the AMG, however, I wouldn't expect to see them available anytime soon.

Considering it's price range, I'd be much more concerned with the tracking and repeatability of the new scope rather than minute differences in glass quality. Hopefully the mechanics were the top priority in these new PST's.
It's the same workings as the Gen 1 Razor, I assume/hope this should be fine!
Not so sure it's the same as the gen 1 Razor, all I've heard the folks at Vortex say is its the same zero stop as the gen 1.. There still could be other differences...

Dave at Vortex here. It may just be a semantics issue in what people are saying online. The Zero stop "technology" is the same in the PST Gen II as the Razor Gen I...meaning same technology based on our patent for this zero stop. They are not the exact same turrets, as in we just plunked the turrets off the Razor Gen I and put them on the PST Gen II, nor did we just take the exact internals from Razor Gen I and put them in PST Gen II. The reason is that the size is a bit different. One complaint on the Razor Gen I turret is that is was really tall. In order to fix this for PST Gen II we had to redesign the turret a little bit to make it shorter. It had nothing to do with trying to make it less expensive or anything like that. With that said, from a user perspective of how you set the zero stop, it will work the exact same way as the Razor Gen I. If you know how to set the Razor Gen I zero stop it will be second nature for setting the PST Gen II....and it's a nice solid-wall hard stop, that is a "rotational" stop, so no stress is directly transferred to the turret screw. The turret screw is an extremely precise screw that is critical for tracking. To address some other questions above, we have also track tested these quite a bit and they track great. We actually helped design the equipment used for scope track testing that is used by quite a bit of the big optics brands today and I believe we know tracking as good or better than anyone else. These scopes will track and we definitely have the equipment to test and make sure of that. Optics are a big improvement over PST Gen I. I'm out for the night. Enjoy this scope!

Not that it matters (as my budget didn't allow for the AMG) but is it wholly made in the Philippines?
According to the Q&A section for the scope on the Vortex site, the scopes are being manufactured in the Philippines. I'd assume that means the entire unit including glass.

Still kicking myself for falling for the OpticsPlanet availability estimates. Hoping it will be worth the wait.
I ordered one of these because I like Vortex and because there just aren't too many scopes out there with focus down to 25 yards, a good zero stop and reputation that Vortex has. I had a couple of Gen 1s and they were good scopes and I'm hoping this will work nicely on a .22 trainer. By the time you find a scope that will focus down to 25 yards and a good zero stop then you're in the same price range of this scope. Hope it's worth the wait.
wish they offered a reticle in the 1-6 like they had in the old PST 1-4 though. The "donut" was nice for closer shots.

It appears Vortex has started to ship the PST 1-6's at least. Any of you guys get your hands on one yet?
Optics Planet has finally changed their availability date from 4-6 weeks to 28 to 35 days. I doubt that they would have made that date change until they had some information on the product. This timeline also falls in line with what the Vortex Rep told me at SHOT, he said 1st of April. We shall see.
At least that is more encouraging than the 4 to 6 months for the AMG.

I ordered a 5-25 ffp last week directly from vortex military program and the rep told me I'd have mine in may. I'm ounvously late getting an order in but I would guess end of March first of April for the first shipments. My experience in dealing with vortex is that they almost always deliver early from the date they give you.

I had one ordered through promotive but got a notice yesterday that it was still 2-4 months out. Sport Optics 10% off closed the distance on the mil/le discount that it was worth paying a little extra to get it now. I'll post an unboxing video on youtube when it comes in.
