OK guys I've decided that I'm probably going to get a Vortex Viper PST 6-24.
My question is what do I gain by going up to the razor.
I know that you get some more adjustment out of the razor but what other differences are there?
Is the glass quality much better, how much?
I know both are good choices I'm just trying to decide if the razor is worth the extra cost over the viper pst.
You could almost buy 2 viper pst's for the price of one razor.
I just want to make sure I make the right choice the first time around.
Money is deffinately a factor but I don't want to sacrifice on quality or options(FFP, mil/mil) one of the main reasons I'm looking so hard at Vortex over the others.
One thing I really like about the razor that the viper doesn't have is the EBR-2/-2B reticle.
But in my mind just the reticle isn't worth the price difference.

Re: Vortex Question

One thing you will gain by going to the Razor is you will get the scope this year. The PST FFP 6-24s are going to be a while to clear all the back orders.

But like Jason said a little more info would help.

Re: Vortex Question

Well I need two scopes actually, one for my .300wm that will be mostly a long range target gun, shot from a bench or prone with a bipod.
My other rifle is an AR in 6.5 grendel that I intend to be used for hunting and target shooting.

Re: Vortex Question

I have ordered 4 total PST since I have the rifles to put them on. The Razor glass is stunning and if I had the one rifle to do the install on I would have ordered the Razor. I have one PST so far and love it. At some point I will for sure add the Razor to my collection. At this point if you would like to save some money and do not mind waiting, then I would go for the PST.

IDK but I feel kinda special, lol

Re: Vortex Question

Thanks for all the replies guys.
And waiting is some what of an issue, I only have so much nice weather and all.
I thought that the PST's were flowing out to all the back orders and that they'd get caught up and then people would heve them instock.
I guess that's going to take longer than I thought.
Any of you guys "in the know" know when we should be able to get them off the shelf so to speak?
If I'm looking at a month or so wait I'm ok with that but I can't be waiting all summer for a scope.

For a PST FFP 6-24?

I agree with Jason.

Re: Vortex Question

I was quoted 4-6 weeks about a week ago that vendors will receive a shipment of the 6-24s. Meaning that these will most likely still all be going to backorders and not "on the shelf". Its still really hard to say how long it would take for you to get a PST if you placed it today.

The we are doing everything we possibly can to fill orders as quickly as possible but to our amazement the orders continue to come in at an astonishing rate. From a sales stand point this is great, but unfortunately it will ultimately cause some frustration for some of our customers and for this we sincerely apologize as it certainly was/is not our intent. We strive to keep our customers happy and will do everything in our power to continue to do this.

As eric86 said the orders we send out should take care of quite a few back orders ,but inevitably it will not fill them all ,especially the FFP's, as these scope take longer and are more complicated to assemble and they are the most back ordered scopes in the line. Also, just a side note, I would guess that 99.9% of the PST's that we send out over the next 3-4 months are already spoken for.

So I just want to say Thank you in advance to all for being patient with us and we are doing everything in our power to fill orders as quickly as possible (without sacrificing quality).

Thank you
Scott

Re: Vortex Question

Glad to hear from you Scott, unfortunately I don't have the time to wait possably several months for a 4-16 FFP PST.
So I may end up getting a razor first and then get a PST once they are more available.
I'm gonna keep watching the sales section here for a used razor with the EBR-2 or -2B reticle.
There were a few on here over the last week or two and I missed out it seems.
There is a razor on the classifieds right now but it's an EBR-3 reticle.
Question if I bought it and sent it in for the eyebox upgrade how much would it cost to have the reticle changed out to the EBR-2B?
Also how long would it take for me to get it back?

Thanks Scott

I agree with Jason. </div></div>

Yes, that may have changed within this past week, but that is what he told me. Luckily, I found a SFP here on the Hide and decided to grab it. I believe they are the second largest Vortex distributors, so they have them coming more regularly. However, that was just my understanding of the conversation.

Thanks Scott </div></div>The reticle swap would be $150 and it would go back out to you within 5-7 days of us receiving it. That being said depending on the price of the used one you are looking at you may be better off contacting some of the Vortex dealers here on the hide to see what they can do for you. You may very well end up being able to get a new scope with the new eye piece and ebr-2b reticle for around the same price(once you add reticle swap cost to used scope). This would save the hassle of sending the scope in and shipping(to us) cost.

Re: Vortex Question

Ya, I kind of thought that it would work out like that but I wanted to check.
If the swap out was cheaper it might be worth it but at $150 you're right I'm better off getting a brand new one or waiting for one with the EBR-2/-2B to show up in the for sale section.

Re: Vortex Question

I went through Optics planet... not knowing about cameraland.. my order has been in since Feb 10th so I think im too deep into it to change now..

I am told it's worth the wait but not having glass for my rifle (sold the other prematurely) put be back behind an AR at work... so hopefully one day soon ill get the magical email that says "shipped"

Re: Vortex Question

I contacted optics planet again, they gave me "around the middle of May" so then I ordered it through Doug and he said 1 to 4 weeks.

I figure Doug will ship before Optics then Ill cancel my Optics order.
