I’m In the market for a new scope for PRS. Looking at either a razor gen2 4.5x27 or the Leupold Mk5 HD. I have read a few threads on these scopes. Anyone have both? Thoughts on them. I have been told to save a few dollars and go with a Bushnell xrs also. Thanks In advance for the advice.

I’ve owned both....2 of both as a matter of fact...as well as many other scopes and I’ve owned the mark5 the longest of all the scopes I’ve owned.
Mk5. Turrets are nicer as far as capped windage (that fucked me hard on a stage with a vortex) and lock at zero with 3 revs on the elevation. Weight and aluminum covers are a bonus.
Only reason I'd go with a razor is the reticle.
While I love the Christmas tree in the rimfire games, I feel like it's overly cluttered in the big gun games. Give me the simple TMR and let me dial elevation.

Leupold seems to have the edge here between these 2. I have both and really enjoy my Mk5 5-25 with the TMR. Lighter weight, nice turrets, glass is better in low light. Vortex is definitely a tank but for me, Leupold all day. I use mine for long range steel and hunting. I don’t shoot matches anymore
I owned a MK5 and liked it, but I sold it for another Razor 2.

To my eyes the optical quality was close enough and both tracked true. While the turrets are very different I appreciate both the design and the execution on both.

How did the vortex windage fuck you on a stage? The Vortex Razor Gen 2's have locking turrets. You have to pull them up/out to unlock them and rotate them. So unless you left the windage turret unlocked, I don't see how it could have screwed you on a stage if you bumped it on a barricade or something. If talking about a different Vortex model that's not the question OP wants answered. But to answer OP's question, capped windage or locking turrets is a mute point. IF used properly, neither will screw you on a stage.
I own a Mark5 with the H59 reticle and I love it. Turret design is great and glass is awesome. I dont care much for illumination so for me it not an issue not to have it. I have never own a Razor but theyre proven scopes and everyone seems to like them.
The Leupold may have slightly better glass, but when you compare the two based on price, what the Vortex is available for compared to an illuminated Mk5... I guess some of it depends on if you want illumination. If so there is a pretty big disparity in price.
Ah, did not know that. I borrowed a Gen ii from a buddy for a match. It got caught on something and rolled while slung up.
Definitely possible. Unfortunate. Just remember to push it back in to lock it before you start shooting next time lol
