Newbie here but i read alot. I have a Scar 17s that i want to put a general purpose scope on. My max distance and accuracy requirement would be 600 yds. I have been saving for a nightforce 2.5-10x32 but i just don't really like any reticles that they have to offer for that scope. I must say that i am not an experienced long range shooter but i want to become effective from 0-600, that would be my goal.
My main question is-
The Scar has an alleged reputation of breaking optics with the exception ( from what i have read from various sources) of nightforce scopes and elcan specters. I dont think i want to go the elcan route, too much $ for an optic for me at this time. As i said earlier, i dont really like any nightforce reticles.
I know the razor is pretty new but i like everything i see about it and i was curious if its construction was comparable to a nightforce and if anyone with some time behind this scope would think it could handle the sharp forward recoil and survive?
I plan on getting an ADM Delta mount for which ever scope i go with.

Other suggestions are welcome just sold a Ta11 Acog, i prefer a low/mid power variable.
My price range is around $1500.00
I need something durable with clear glass, basic BDC (prefered) reticle with some illumination. I am not educated in mils and at this time for a battle rifle optic i want to keep rugged and simple.

Any help would be great.

BDC is great if you are in the military and limited to one specific ammo choice and barrel length but you will quickly find that your SCAR's favorite load isn't anything they make a BDC remotely close to. Nobody has really worked out a BDC reticle for a 16in 308 shooting 168gr ammo yet.

MRAD is the way to go and you will have your holdovers/bullet drops/ranging figured out in a week to 10 days of shooting a specific load even if you are just fumbling around on your own and what's more you will be able to pull off that same feat with various loads even quicker once you get the hang of it the first time.

I've run the Vortex Razor HD 1-6x24 on my own SCAR and the JM-1 reticle didn't like my SCAR's most accurate load at all but with an SWFA SS with mils I was able to get my favorite 165gr bonded hunting ammo on the money at 400-600m and range targets effectively in an afternoon and I'm no sniper.

You should subscribe to the tutorials and learn to count mils and estimate target size at range. Once you do you can setup behind any similar optic on any remotely dialed in weapon and get to work quickly. This will also allow you to swap an expensive optic on to more that one weapon and have a little laminated index card that gives you a starting point to get it setup and on paper usually on the first shot once you get the hang of it.

The Vortex is a fantastic optic for the money but you need to not doubt your own ability to learn that MRAD reticle and leave that BDC business where it belongs(issued weapons with issued ammo).
