Rifle Scopes Vortex Razor HD Gen2 3-18x50, $1450 a Good Price?

Has EBR2C reticle. So there's a sale and they have it for $1450, normally $2200. So $750 off they say.

They also have the Viper PST Gen2 3-15x44 EBR2D reticle, $675, normally $899. $225 off here.

There are other bigger ones but I really need a mid range scope. I don't really have the cash to spare but if it's a deal I shouldn't pass up I can make it happen. Are these really good prices or this about what they can normally be had for if you're patient? Is the Razor worth $775 more than the Viper? I have a tack driving Grendel needing some glass worthy of it. But I can always wait for a Steiner or a S&B or NF sale... Or get one used here in the PX.

Don't have the time to do the research myself, hoping the Dark Lord of Optics or someone who knows this shit by rote can pop in and lay down some numbers.

The Razor is worth the price over the PST GEN 2, Ive had/ both. 1,450 is the cheapest ive seen.
EDIT: I have a 3-15 PST on my Grendel. No regrets. I feel the Razor is a bit too heavy and large for a small frame AR. I prefer 30mm tubes on the the small frame guns.

There is one of the razors right now in the px for 1375 (no connections to sale). I just bought an amg off of scott at liberty optics, I would check with him. When I called around checking prices it wasn't even close.

Have 2 of the pst gen ii and like both. Think that may be the reticle that midway was running special on also, if ffp good price.

The PST Gen II 3-15x44 FFP list was $1000 when it got released in 2017.

The Razor Gen II's MAP's (minimum advertiser price) all got dropped by $200 recently.

They have a 4.5-27 for $1850, normally $2500, but that's only $650 difference vs. $750 off of a $2200 scope. And I don't need that much mag for a Grendel.

So there's 3% if I use the bank... And they usually give me a broke dick discount so I'll see if that applies too. These killer deals are killing me. PVS30's for $4k, a 6x .50BMG ACOG NIB direct from the factory for $1448, now this! I'll see if I can pull it off.

I have two surgeries coming up that'll keep me out of play for much of the summer anyway so I can save more then, won't be doing much.

Oh, they have a lot of Barrett rifles on sale too, $7400 for an M82A1 20" w/NF SHV scope (4-14, 5-25 or close to that). M107's for $10k. That's $1000 and $1500 off respectively. I'd love to sell my DTA for one of those but that's probably not gonna happen with the can and all. Oh well, can't bitch, it is a nice rifle in it's own right. MRAD's on sale too, I'd like a .338 but that ain't happening right now. Figure one of you big spenders can make use of that though.

If you wait you could find a much better price on the MRAD. The one I got about two years ago was quite a bit less. Even when you get a screaming deal on an MRAD keep in mind the conversion kits will cost quite a bit more than they do for the AXMC.

I used to always end up getting sucked into these deals, lately I've been resisting them more. A lot of times it's really not that much more $ to get what you want. If you shop the coupons you can get the 4.5-27 for around $1800, less for the older reticles.

I've thought about picking up the 3-18 gen 2 cause you can get them pretty cheap as they've come down to that $1450 range. However, the way I see it, the 3-18 is the same massive weight and size, so it's worth $350 to me to get another 10x up top. If I want a 3-18 on a rimfire/AR rig etc. I don't want it to weigh 47oz. If I'm going to slap 47oz on a gun, I want more than 18x.

Even the 3-15 PST II that was $675, if you call up some shops you can get a 5-25 for only $125 more. For $125 more, and 4oz, I'll get the 5-25. I'd much rather have another 10x up top and give up 2x down low.

Now sometimes the deals are great, the Bushnell LRHS for $750 for example with a $200 bushnell rebate, that's a steal for $550. The Sig Tango6's 4-24 you can get for under $1200 that's a pretty good steal too, but a lot of times the deals are not that great if you are compromising what you want and are patient.

Yeah, I hear 'ya. That's what I was asking about actually. That 6x .50 BMG ACOG for $1448 even was one helluva deal, Amazon had ONE like that for sale from Trijicon. I didn't think it'd go through but it did. After I bought it, I searched for the same thing and they had an identical bunch for $2600 and that was on sale! So I really scored on that. The PVS 30's, well, there was no other way I was gonna get a clip on that nice anytime soon. And the loan I took out for it really raised my credit, which was part of the plan, I need to be able to buy a house sooner than later. Paid most of it off on day one though so I didn't get hit with all that interest and negating the deal.

I guess I'll wait then and look for used on here and see if I can't find a killer deal on a 2.5-10 or 1.8-10, etc. You guys upgrading to the TT's and Zero Compromise, I'm depending on you guys to unload your S&B's and last year's Steiners here in the PX!

200 rebate? The 20% ended feb 20th if that’s what you’re thinking of. And the last time the rebate happened the original gap run was active but vista outdoor said they didn’t include the gap run.

The $200 bushnell rebate was on the last batch sold, the first batch evidently Bushnell said they did not qualify for a similar rebate. For the second batch, lets just say it paid to apply for the rebate. Those deals are not active now, but my point was that if you are patient there are some killer deals. Many of the deals we see though are not that good if you not getting what you want. It's like that Midway 3-15 PST ii for $675, when I first saw that it seemed like an amazing deal that I almost ordered 2 on the spot. However, when I sat down and did the math and checked prices, for $125 more I can get a 5-25 and all of a sudden it doesn't sound like a great deal when I'd rather have the extra power. Even for a 3-15 pst II for $675 is not that great, Optics Planet has them for $850 new, and frequently have 10-15% off, so that's getting within $50 of $675.

Another one was when Gander Mountain a couple weeks ago had a 25% off coupon in the entire store, that applied to various vortex optics, after day 1 Gander must have been flooded with orders, because they quickly set them so the promotion would not work.

As for an $800 5-25 PST ii, call and support the Snipershide vendors, you'll probably find the quoted prices much better than what is advertised.

I guess the point is it's very easy to get wrapped up in these "blowout deals" and make an impulse buy when the deal really isn't as good as it looks, especially if it's not on the exact item you want. If you are saying "well it's not the reticle I want, or it's the 3-15 when I really want the 5-25" many times if you do the math and shop, it's not much more $ to get what you want.

Yeah, Midway also had the 5-25's at one time in the "exclusive" EBR-2D reticle for $750 before xmas I think. The 3-15's sold out for $675 a bit ago, but I see they have added them back but at $899. They were both marked as "one time special purchases" but I see now EuroOptic also has the 5-25 version with the EBR-2D reticle for $899 with a $100 gift card so that's effectively $800.

I also wonder sometimes if these blowout deals are items the manufacturer knows have an issue, questionable run of parts, etc. and they are selling them cheap, knowing some will come back but that most buyers are not hardcore users or are going to tall test a scope, so the volume to dump them is worth it as opposed to disassembly and repairing them all. The 3-15 at midway is a perfect example. If these really were one time purchases being blown out for $675, how come they are back up on their site at the full $899 price? It's possible they had 1000 of them and just wanted to reduce inventory so they sold 500 and the last 500 are full price, but things like that always seem fishy to me. I can say if I had to pile up the products I've had problems with that were on these types of clearances versus normal pricing there would be a lot more products in the clearance pricing pile that have had issues.

ive wanted to buy a razor for a while but i cant bring myself to given how often i see threads pop up about issues with them. i have to wonder if razor cut back on QC to meet demand. still, 1450 is a great deal either way

I hope this is true, but I remember thinking that 5 years ago too, and here we are with basically no one still doing it. With everyone putting laser rangefinding and ballistics in tiny packages into binoculars, it shouldn't be that hard with a scope.

The other issue is when the big boys start doing it, the pricing might be ridiculous.
