I just purchased the new 2025 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle.

It's in jail now so I'm spending my time trying to decide what optic to buy for it. After extensive research I've narrowed it down to either the Vortex Razor HD Gen2 4.5-27x56 or Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 APRS6. I like the Razor because I already have the 3-18x model on my 6.5 CM Aero Precision M5E1 gas gun.

So I'm assuming that they both have the same build quality, Glass quality, fit and finish etc. I'm leaning towards the Vortex because of my familiarity with it and I also like the locking L-Tec turrets that allow you to dial 5 clicks beneath the Zero however the Athlon Cronus is considerably cheaper. Also. I've always used MOA scopes. I've decided that the next one will be MRAD because I want to get into long range PRS and I'm told that MRAD is better for that.

I'm looking for opinions out there as to what the general thought is between these two scopes and also whether MRAD is actually better for long range PRS than MOA. I've always shot a MOA scope but this time I want to get out of my confort zone and learn MRAD. If anyone has switched from MOA to MRAD let me know your experience. I look forward to hearing your opinions.

MRAD is common in PRS and it helps to be talking the common language. I've never heard of anyone converting from MRAD to MOA.

I have the Razor G2 and have shot Athlon and don't think they are equal. I think the Razor is worth the extra money.

Might be a good thread for you. Not BTR though.

Learn MRAD. Do it solely just so you can say you can run either at any time. Make it about competency....not whether one is better or not. They function the basically the same. It's pretty much been proven what is vastly more popular than the other in your stated use case. And it's been proven that you can use either type.

When YOU can use either.....YOU can decide for YOU which is better as your use case changes.

Your gonna be happier in the end that as a shooter, your able to freely switch or use any piece of equipment you come across.

I have both scopes and prefer the Razor. I also prefer Mil after having only MOA for years.

As an introvert, I am thinking of switching to MOA as it will give me one more reason to not talk to other humans at matches.

I’d say look for the Vortex Razor G2 used. I picked one up that had a few scratches for $1400.
