To my understanding, the vortex razor line of binoculars and spotting scopes have always been made in Japan. A buddy just bought a new pair of razor hd 12x50s and it's "made in China" I haven't checked them out yet nor would I be able to tell the difference because I had never looked through a pair made in Japan but was just wondering if any of you guys can shine some light on the subject. Are they better or worse, maybe the same or why the switch happened? Thanks in advance!

The scope company and designs came from America. The parts (including glass) were contract made in Japan, and, where quality standards were met for that design, in other countries including China, When I first started buying Vortex, they were assembled and QC'd in America.

I understand now, not only are some optics fully assembled in Japan, they are like their parts were, fully assembled in the country of contract, i.e. China.

If made in China, How does a scope manufacture like Vortex, If they subcontracted production in China stop bootleg Knock-offs of there Product & info being sold behind there backs ?. It's China, That's what they do .
