Rifle Scopes Vortex Razor new to me - problem I need help with

New shooter, I mounted the razor and can't get it to focus
Adjustment knob set on infinity and lowering it makes it go from bad to worse
Eyepiece all the way in dialing it out makes it worse
Talked to Vortex, they say I cranked it too tight
Took it off, looked good at 1k yds holding it in my hand, remounted much lighter torque, same problem!
What do I do? I don't have torque screwdriver
Love the scope, but blurry is no good!

Happened to a buddy of mine and it was his Rings. What type of rings do you have?

Find someone who has a torque driver.....

Yah....its that important

besides you need it in more than just one place.

The steel rings or aluminum? I had a set of the steel rings at one point and was not happy at all with them, left horrible ring marks.

Dont want to sound like a jackass, but as you are adjusting the diopter (eyepiece) are you also adjusting the parallax knob? When you adjust one it will slightly affect the other so you kind of need to play with both at the same time. Unless when you say blurry you mean completely blurry to where you cant see anything, then you may have other issues.

Hey, don't worry about sounding like an ass, I feel like one having to come here and confess I don't know what I am doing.
Aluminum rings, played with both parallax and diopter at the same time. Adjusting the parallax below infinity makes the already blurry picture more blurry and dialing the diopter out from its max inward does the same thing.

But you say it looks fine without the scope mounted in the rings?

Regardless, Vortex will take great care of you, if you send it in you should not be without it for more than a week.

When you say Vortex rings, is that the ones that Seekins makes for them? If so, those will actually flex in a little if you tighten the bottom part of the rings to the base before you get the caps on and tightened down. So do the caps first. That could be putting a good bind on your scope. The caps need 15 in lbs, about as much as you can tighten with a nut driver and your thumb and forefinger. The bottom half to base need a max of 55 in lbs.

Yep, works great not mounted, perfectly clear </div></div>

sounds like you are applying pressure on mart of that mechanism.

To help narrow it down you should use the ocular focus to focus the reticle (which is its only function). Do this by aiming it at the sky so your eye does not focus on objects and so you are not tempted to use the ocular focus as an image focus.

Once the reticle is crisp, don't mess with the ocular again.

Now try the parallax dial and see what you get. If it still does not appear to be doing anything move the front ring as far forward on the tube (toward the objective) as you can and try again.

IF they look like our rings then we made them for vortex and if you think its a ring issue i can take care of you directly. First try moving the rings to a different spot on the tube. you might be just at the right spot that its putting pressure somewhere it doesn't like.

If the scope is fine when its not mounted then its oveously a mounting issue. You can send the scope and rings to us if you like and im sure i can figure out whats going on. ??

I only went easy othe rings
May have overtightened the bases

Moving the ocular only worsens the problem.
I will try this after loosening the bases
