Rifle Scopes Vortex Razor or Razor on MasterPiece Arms BA

I have narrowed it down to either the Vortex Razor Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56 $2000 or Razor HD AMG 6-24x50 FFP for $2500. The AMG is almost 2 pounds lighter but the Master Piece Arms MPA BA is heavy anyway so not going to do a lot of walking with so not really worried about the additional 2 pounds. The Gen II Razor goes up to 27 vs 24 on the AMG which I like. Both FFP and mil so not seeing any advantage of the AMG? Any differences in durability, quality or clarity? I haven't got to look through an AMG so flying blind on this.

Depends what magnification you need on the low end. I've looked through both (granted I'm no elite sniper) and they virtually look identical, glass wise. I do tend to like 56mm objectives for a better field of view.

I've had a couple G2Rs and an AMG. Unless weight is a primary point of concern, I prefer the G2R. I think the Gen II has more forgiving eyebox & parallax adjustments, I prefer the larger turrets with a second rev indicator, and I also prefer the EBR-7C to the EBR-7B. The AMG has great FoV relative to magnification, but the Gen2 still has greater FoV in the absolute sense.

You can get a Gen2 new for a little under $1,600 and an AMG for about $1,800. If $2,500 is your budget, you might look for a used/demo Kahles K525i. The ergonomics of the Kahles are much better than either Vortex offering IMO. I've checked my G2Rs, AMG, and K525i on a tracking board and every one tracked 100% out to 16 mils.

@devildawg2531 - I think you have made your case for the Gen2 Razor over the AMG. We all have our favorites. The big difference is going to be weight, size tube diameter (Gen 2 is 34mm tube, AMG is 30mm tube), and lens size (56mm v. 50mm). I am not sure how Vortex gets 71 MOA of elevation out of both. Common sense, you would think that the 34mm tube would give you more travel, but the specs are the same. If you had a lighter weight hunting scope where you every once mattered, the AMG wins. If you want better optical presenation in low light situations, the Gen2 wins. Then, factor your preferred mount, and the fact that 30mm can theoretically get your eye closer to the barrel and bullet flight, but I personally think that sort of measurrement is immaterial beyond 150 yards.

These are both great scopes, and I am sure you will be happy with either.

I know we cannot sell that model with the newer EBR-7C for $1,600, and it would be violating Vortex very strict pricing guidelines to say we could. I am assuming you mean a used scope on the PX or an older stock EBR 1-C or 2-C.

I know first hand a gen2 7c razor can be had for under 1600 new.
vortex M.A.P isnt the same as what they can be sold for ..

If you really want the AMG, find a used one in the PX for $1700-1800.

AMG parallaxes down to 25y if you're shooting rimfire matches. G2 I think only parallaxes down to 35y.

I run an AMG, on my rimfire rig purely because it's lighter and easier to balance. For all my centerfire rigs I would run a 56mm obj, why not? There are a lot of good glass for $2500... used NF, Kahles, etc.

No, I picked up a brand new EBR-7C for a few dollars under $1,600 from one of the Hide Commercial Venders. I also picked up a brand new AMG with EBR-7B for just under $1,800 from that same Hide Commercial Vender.

If those prices are violating Vortex's pricing, I won't "out" who the vendor is, but it's a well known Hide Vendor that deals Vortex. I just checked their website, and those prices that I mentioned are still legit.
