It looks similar to an Aimpoint for around $150.00 bucks. Was wondering if its anygood? How it stands up to recoil and if it maintains its zero? How durable is it or how durable does it look? Let me know what you got. It will be going on a SBR 10.5" Noveske.

    Re: Vortex Red Dot

Just bought one and the dot looks like it is not round. Kind of tails off to the low right. It is holding zero, but it is not very bright. Hard to see on a very bright day. Even harder to see in the snow. But some other RD's are hard to see in the snow also. This one is just not as good.

How comparable is your 3x mag to say the aimpoint version? Will it work with the LT swivel to the side mounts?

The issue with out of round dots has more to do with your eyes (astigmatism) than with the dot.
I had the same issue and when I use my persciption glasses the dot is nice and round.

My experience with the Strikefire has been very good.
Holds zero good, made well for it's price point. Overall a very good value.

Sorry but the higher you turn it up the worse it gets. Have had my eyes checked 3 months ago and nothing was found. I have two other RD's and they do not do this. You can actually see light bleeding off in streaks. Like it is fanning out. I like the optic and it is working for its purpose. But, with anything that is made in china you are going to get bad ones with the good ones.

I had one on a 10/22 I just sold. For the money I think it is an excellent buy. Much better than all the Nikon, Tasco, TrueGlo, etc. red dot sights and much more inexpensive than Aimpoint and Eotech. It definitely performed well.

I am with you. I have had my eyes checked and have 20/15 vision and no astigmatism. I have never looked thru Vortex but i have three Aimpoint T1s and all of them during low light and night time do not look round. The Eotech does not do that at all. I think it is the difference between the hologoram in Eotech vs. whatever Aimpoint/Vortex technology uses.

    tomme,

You can certainly send it in for us to check and if there is something wrong we'll take care of it.

A couple of things that you might want to check is to have someone else look through it, or try looking with your other eye. If other people are seeing the same thing, or if it looks the same in your other eye, then it's probably the LED and we'll take care of it.

Sorry for the trouble. Please call us at 1-800-426-0048 if you want to talk to our CS about getting it checked out.

    Re: Vortex Red Dot

The Strikefire is very good for the money. For most shooters it is perfect for their needs. Some shooters say it washes out in bright light (competitive shooters) and that aim point is the brighter. I cannot say either way, no Aimpoint in my collection. I just have to ask those guys if they take their old factory barreled hunting rifle to a long range match too?
I just received the new Red dot only Strikefire, first thing I noticed is the color of the coating. The red dot is much more enhanced to my eye.. I actually like the new off button too. Hold three sec, and then it turns off. Makes you think...

    Brasshound.

    Re: Vortex Red Dot

If there is a tail or oblong shape to a red dot, one way to determine whether it's the optic or your eyes is to rotate it while looking at the dot. If it's your eyes, the direction of the tail won't change; if it's the optic, the direction of the tail will rotate with the optic.

I've had an Aimpoint and discovered that you have to reduce the dot intensity to keep the flaring and dot shape under control.
