I think this is a better place for this optic because ya know. it's not really a scope, and meant for semi auto rifles like we talk about here...

if mods think it shuold be in scopes, my apoligies, and move it

Does anyone have one? I just saw it by surprise while browsing aimsurplus. I really didn't wanna spend 600+ on aimpoint micro dot.

Vortex is very reputable in mid range scopes, so it's a name I'd easily trust. but was curious if anyone had any thoughts on this optic. for the price, there is nothing close quality wise. unless you go for a different style like the fastfire. This comes with a 2x magnifier which isn't much of a help, but will be great to zero the optic at 50-100 yards.

THanks!

Re: Vortex SPARC

The magnifier is not much use really, at least for me, but the sight itself is not bad at all. It is no aimpoint of course, but it definitely works well. It is compact and seems to have pretty good battery life. I think the only thing I didnt like was that it took a button cell battery that was sorta hard to get. Just me nitpicking lol.

I have had it on a 308, 556, and now it is on a 22. Worked fine on everything. Adjustments seemed good too.

Re: Vortex SPARC

I bought a SPARC 2 years ago based on positive comments about the Strikefire. It is good design, construction, and easy to use. It has an on-off switch that stays on for 4-6 hours and turns off automatically with non-use. Since battery life is shorter than the unbeatable circuitry of Aimpoint, it is necessary. That said, I changed my battery on mine 1 year ago and last I checked - it still works on a shotgun that I don't use much. I have several Aimpoints so I can't comment on battery life with frequent use, but it is not bad. There is slight parallax in contrast to Aimpoint's advertised "no parallax", but Aimpoint has some as well. I do not see effects on accuracy. The quick POA is same as Aimpoint, but an advantage is the 2MOA dot. At 50 to 100 yds, groups are easier as well as taking shots at small targets. It has survived shock from 556, 6.8, and shotgun. But without the myriads of field use, obviously you wouldn't want it on a self defense gun like an Aimpoint.
Conclusion: for range shooting, it is a great alternate RDO.

Re: Vortex SPARC

By the way, I read your comment about the 2X magnifier. Throw it away, it is junk. You'll do better shooting without it at 50 to 100 with practice.

yeah, i see that. they should have just excluded it and bring the cost down 5 more bucks

Re: Vortex SPARC

I have one and consider it ok for use on a .22 or recreation-only gun.

I love Vortex optics and own several of their viper and razor lines with more on order. The sparc just isn't in the same league, IMO.

Re: Vortex SPARC

I have one on on Ruger 22 pistol. I beat it to death and it has held up well. Magnifier is junk as stated. It is the best little NV compatible dot on a 22 pistol I have found.

Just what I wanted to hear! I will order one tonight!
