Hey all,

This may be rehashing old news but in all my searching, I couldn't find an answer.

Back in mid 2010, the Viper PST 4-16x50 scopes supposedly had production stop to take a look at QC and try to fix some issues with the reticle being canted, or slightly off as far as ranging is concerned.

Now, I'm interested in purchasing one of these scopes and I can't for the life of me seem to find an answer on what, if anything was corrected in these scopes.

Does anybody know whether or not these issues were corrected? Or does anybody know of a comparable scope in this price range? ($700)

Thanks!

Re: Vortex Viper PST

It's a great scope for the money, I think you were referring to the very first small batch released, issues are fixed. If there is an issue then Vortex has some of the best, if not the very best, customer service there is.

Re: Vortex Viper PST

I've had mine since then and wouldn't hesitate buying another, or more for that matter. If you do find an issue with anything on the scope Vortex will take care of it in a hurry.

Re: Vortex Viper PST

FFP is not a requirement. I rarely shoot unknown ranges and when I do need to range something, it's usually far enough away that the ranging on 16 power works just fine.

I've done a fair amount of research, and for the money, this really appears to be one hell of an optic. I got to look through one yesterday for the first time at my gun shop and it appeared to be head and shoulders above all of the other scopes I've ever owned, even a few higher end leupy hunting scopes.

I think she'll go on order tomorrow. Thanks guys!

Re: Vortex Viper PST

I recall that it involved complaints about the turrets... I dug through some old e-mails and this was the issue:

Vortex got feedback on the first shipments of the PST, over a year ago, that the turrets were looser than people wanted, and Vortex stopped production to redesign and retool the turrets for a tighter feel.

Re: Vortex Viper PST

Yes, there is a comparable scope, actually about 100 cheaper.

The Weaver 3-15x tactical.

Does not have a zero stop feature but has everything else you could want.

Both are good scopes, both will make you happy.

Re: Vortex Viper PST

I've heard the glass is just as good as the 6-24x50 now so maybe they've fixed that too? I'd really like to know also. I kind of have my heart set on the 4-16 but if the glass issue still exists I may go with the weaver tactical.

Re: Vortex Viper PST

I believe JonA found the issues with the canted reticule in his review when they first came out. (I notice someone bumped that review to the first page again so you can find it and read through it if you want.)
Correction - that thread on the first page is not the review I was referring to by JonA. The one I was referring to was for the 4-16 PST.

I had one of the first to come out and sent it in and got it back with the reticule fixed and the turrets upgraded. It's been a good scope and the turrets are still really crisp.

The glass was better also when I got it back. It's a 4-16 and I have no complaints with the glass now.
