Rifle Scopes Vortex Viper vs Nightforce Nsx is it worth it?

Hallo.

Im looking for a scope for my old mauser 98. Its a custom build rifle.
I had choose the NSX 5,5-22 to go on it. But is the double price worth it?
Or should i find a Vortex Viper and save that 1000dolars?

the NXS is a great scope- but are it's features worth $1000 more? Not to me. I had the 5.5-22x50 on my 300wm. it did everything it was supposed to but I sold it so i could purchase 2 pst's. there are things that i miss about the NF but the pst's are doing just fine.

I have both NF scopes and a Vortex PST. If my life depended on the scope the NF is the one I would choose otherwise the Vortex is acceptable.

If you're on a budget the Viper should do fine, but it's nowhere near the quality of the NF.

Hehe either scope on a Mauser 98 is going to look out of place imo.

For being 1/2 the price, I certainly wouldn't say the PST is only half as good. Get what you can afford and go shoot.

I have shot nightforce scopes for years and they are built strong and also track very well

heh a mauser can have many looks here are some

not builded be me, but its a quite nice build. the stock is home made.

here is another one

i have started to build my own mauser, for use on 1000m.
Hmm im going to get the Nightforce.

Nice rifles... i was imagining the old school wood stocks with iron sights.

The answer is simple, get the best you can afford... yes Nightforce is that much better than the Viper... whether you can use or need that "better" is on you.

Kind of reminds me of the argument of camera lenses, (I used to test lenses for a living... sort of)... 99% of the photographers I've met don't use 10% of the ability of their lenses.... but they argue about lenses until the cows come home.

Frankly, I don't really NEED a Nightforce, I've done just fine with a Viper... but I ended up buying the Nightforce simply because it ended up being the best I could afford.

I have both. They are both great scopes, but for the money you cant go wrong with the pst.

When I was shooting a PST on my .308, there were many times when I found myself thinking, "this feature is nicer on the Nightforce." I've stuck with Nightforce.

Is the Nightforce better by $1K? I'd say yes, because that's what it costs to get a Nightforce and it's worth it to me. Whether it will be worth it to you, I don't know. I do know that on those unforeseen occasions when my rifle takes a spill, I really don't worry about it. I haven't broken it yet.

Of course, if you break a Vortex, they will fix it, but you're still SOL for the trip you're on.

Still, I have to admit that the PST is one hell of a bang for the buck. My friend that I sold mine to mounted it on his 40X in .308. Every time I get behind it, I'm still impressed with the glass.
