Vudoo Gun Works V-22 Rimfire Bolt Action

As has been said here and pretty much everywhere in the rimfire world, different lots of the same label ammo group differently.

Here are 100-meter (109.36 yards) Lapua Rimfire Performance Center results for four different Center-X lots tested in my Vudoo last week. The yellow-highlighted lot performed best of over a dozen lots tested; the gray circles are actually .22 bullet sized on the paper printouts of the PDF-file test results and the edge-to-edge size of the group in mm is seen at lower-right in each group's "square." Note variance even within lot. Midas+ was also tested and performed a bit better but with pretty similar amounts of variance across lots and group to group within promising lots - but I was not willing to pay 40-50% more (about ten cents per round) for Midas+ for less than a quarter-inch of average group size improvement at 109 yards.

Interesting how many of those groups have at least 1 shot that is outside the biggest cluster of shots.

new home for the time being. Pre 14 aiax with the 15” forend. Somehow the spuhr 4001 mount and aadland caps clears the forend. Think I’m gonna get the rrs aux plate to run as well so I have an arca rail for comps.

The first six rounds out of the gun @25m bore sight (one round at bottom target, adjust, 5 rounds into top target)

This was just SK rifle match I was planning on zeroing the scope with before shooting CX. Shot so well I just zeroed the scope to the SKRM and bought two more bricks.

This thing is amazing! 50m groups right behind this were shooting in the .2s, KYL rack at 50m was cleaned with 3 follow ups on the 1/4" spinner done, first round and every round after impacts at 220m no problem.

My 8 year old even went 5/6 on the 220m plate.

Insane how accurate these things are out of the box. Can't wait for the world to return to normal and get out to some matches!

I only ran 11 rounds over the chronograph, but it showed avg velocity of 1080, with an es of 37 and sd of 11. Those were probably rounds 40-51 out of the gun so barrel would have been warm and fouled.

Even with the 20" MTU, I'm going to need to add some weight to the front of my chassis.

The balance point is under the front portion of the mag well as it sits and wants to fall backwards off a baracade.

It won't need much weight, but a little bit way out front will do wonders.

If you're not looking to have a 18 lb rifle, you can lighten up the rear. The ACC by default comes with a .7lb steel butt plate, you can call them and have them send you the aluminum version. This drops the weight off the rear by .5lbs. I also removed the thumbwheels / middle screw as I rarely adjust my LOP/Cheek once it's set up. That also reduced .2lbs.

I also got rid of the aluminum bag rider, and did a 3D printed one.. another .15 lbs reduced. Dropping about .8 - .9lbs off the rear helped quite a bit with the balance. Right now for balancing on a barricade, it's at 16.1 lbs. This has 3 internal weights.

Shot one of my coopers today with 922A, .5 at best. Switched to center-x and immediately was in the .3’s.

I had some that were probably in the .5ish range. I didn’t measure them. Just eyeballed. It was kinda frustrating. 2 or 3 in the same hole then 2 aways away again.

Eley Match (single-lot sample) does well in mine. Eley Edge, at least the lot I have, is reminiscent of #4 buck pattern (no, not really that bad, but horrible by Vudoo standards). Interestingly, a buddy of mine has a bone-stock CZ-455 from which Edge produces disgustingly amazing groups.

Have you tried it without the can on?

Guys giving me some Midas +, polar biathalon, center x, sk long range, Eley match to try out.
I did try 10 without the can. No noticeable difference.

I have one magazine which is very prone to have the flat Match/Edge bullet tips jam into the front of it, causing a hard stop. Other mags cycle it more or less ok... well, ok for practice... but I won't run Match or Edge in a timed match anymore after learning the hard way - especially since I now have a, um, good supply of Center-X after Lapua lot testing in AZ.

Hey @RAVAGE88 - what do you think about filing a little "ramp" on the top front edge of the standard Vudoo magazine to help preclude that flat bullet tip from jamming against the top inside edge?

Not in my rifle. Have shot it in a bunch of matches and never a hiccup. I use Manners stocks though and not chassis which seem to have more feeding issues.

I don't know the details beyond he did indeed pay for full test with can and paid again for full test without can. In the latter, the best lot of Midas+ produced a 10-shot center-to-center group of 0.4" at 100 meters. The other groups weren't that spectacular, but still good enough that he ordered two cases of that lot of Midas+. Ouch.

I just got my rifle a few weeks ago and it will not cycle anything made by Eley. The only way it will work is if you really slam the bolt home and seat the round. Anything Lapua or SK feeds perfect. The Eley shoots beautifully, it is just a bitch to chamber. Same thing with CCI SV. I had to test all the cheap practice ammo I had to figure out what exactly my rifle would chamber without problems.

I rounded the edge a bit on mine using a small, half round file. They feed really smoothly now. I just put a small radius on that sharp edge. Nothing drastic.

Right now with the crisis and ammo shortage I doubt you’ll get anyone on the phone .
Typically when you order several bricks they are kind enough to make it the same lot in my experience.

I am not that gun knowledgeable, but I am curious why a chassis vs a stock has anything to do with the final part of chambering a round. I can understand feeding issues/lips off the magazine possibly, but the actual chambering part as in getting the round deep enough to cam the bolt down, why would a chassis vs a stock have any difference?

I am under full lockdown so I still haven't shot my Vudoo in 2 weeks since I got it. I'll run Match Pistol and Force through mine + SK Standard, Pistol Match Special, and Center-X once they open a shooting range...

It seems the mpa chassis’s have had the most issues in the past as they are generous in the mag opening to ensure centerfire reliability. They do have an adjustable mag catch now and a fix for the vudoo mags from what I’ve heard if I heard correctly. I had zero issues running my vudoo in a bravo chassis and hope to find zero issues in my AICS ax chassis

Krob95 pretty much covered it. The chassis, especially MPA, have a known issue and it can cause issues with feeding. I run Manners with their Mini Chassis and the Eley run without a problem. I have actually had my barreled action in 3 different Manners stocks and never an issue. I bet the Grayboe or McMillans would be the same.

The ultimate deciding factors are where the stock or chassis positions the magazine and tolerances within the magazine itself. Less than 1/8 of an inch is the difference between the slick feeding we expect and misfeeds or jams. So maybe it's best to consider each stock/chassis individually.

Consider that MPA now has an adjustable mag latch for the BA Comp chassis. After I had a couple of bricks of ammo through my V-22 in an MPA with fixed latch, I began experiencing failure of the bolt to pick up the last round in a magazine. Bolt just ran right overtop the round. A buddy of mine (not the same one I've cited in the Lapua testing saga) has an identical rifle/chassis rig. His mags failed in mine, mine functioned perfectly in his. The only discernable difference between the two was I had a tiny amount of vertical play in mags. To make a kinda long story pretty short, I took a little video of the floppy mags and sent to Mike. The result was the adjustable MPA mag latch (MPA did it, not Vudoo). Problem solved.

Now, here's a thought: would my MPA-chassis'ed rifle feed Eley Match/Edge more reliably were I to allow 1/32" of play in my now-tick-tight mag seating? Maybe something to try.

So Rob has a good sample size with Manners mini-chassis; all run Match/Edge just fine. I don't know if my two buddies with MPA-chassis'ed V-22s have tried the flat-points. Will ask at some point.

I have sort of the same thing. The Eley feeds all right But in the final little bit of running the bolt home, it takes more force for the final chambering.
