Considering the vx6 hd 3-18 or the 4-24. The scopes have been around for a fair amount of time now, how do they track?

Based on my rough calculations, without a 20moa rail, you should have around 38 minutes of elevation adjustment in the scope, which will be enough to get a 300 win mag to around 1200 yards. Does this sound correct?

What is the best price you have seen one of these scopes go for?

Thanks!

I do not have one, though I have been looking at one for a while. The best price I have seen is around $1300 without any type of military or LE discount. If you are military, a veteran, or LE Leupold has a discount, but they do not encourage it being shared - so head there and sign up for their Core status and submit paperwork.

I have been considering it or the Mark 5 HD 3.6-18. Here is a link to a prior thread on the same topic:

Just purchase the 3-18 shipped with leupold mounts for less than 1300 from optics planet using a discount tcode. Love the thing. I have it one 20 moa base that came with my rifle. Don't know much about the long distance shooting yet but I know I know have plenty of moa for what I need the gun for. Highly recommend the leupold

I have a VX6 non HD and a VX5hd.
I did a tracking test a few days ago, only dialed 20Moa elevation, but the VX6 was spot on.
The VX5hd showed about 1 click out at 10moa and 2 clicks out at 20moa adjustment, which is comparable to a test I did about 6 months back showing roughly positive 3% error out too 35moa.

Both scopes return to zero repeatably.

I've been using the VX5hd on a 22lr and 20Moa base is enough to sight at 25yards and have the full 38moa available.

Thank you all. Any other similar scopes worth considering in this price bracket?

It depends what your priorities are;
if a lighter weight hunting scope is what you are after then the Swarovski Z5/6 is worth considering, IMO the Leupold reticle options are better and the turrets are better for dialing.

If you want an excellent long range scope and aren't too worried about weight, the Leupold Mark 5/Mark 6, Vortex Razor 3-18x50, and the upcoming Burris XTR 3 are all contenders in that price range, there are also a few Bushnell options and offerings from Athlon.

The VX5hd offers exceptionally good value for money, but the VX6hd is a considerable price jump which put's it in contention with a lot of "Tactical" scopes.

Beetroot is correct, the Swaro Z series is comparable for sure, but the VX-6/5 is still the best choice. Here is a video review comparing a VX-5HD to a Z5.
