Can't wait to see that movie. Give anything to have been able to watch it with my father but he passed away in '86.

He was in the old "mule" army (as he called it) before WWII. They took his horses when they were activated and sent to the South Pacific (41st Inf Div, Idaho NG).

He use to love telling me stories about his horse days, He worked full time for the NG, tending horses. Telling it was part of his job (sic) to exercise the horses by riding them all over the hills of souther Idaho.

Re: War Horse, the Movie

That's awesome, your dad sounds like a real life hero. End of an era when the horses were taken out of the picture, how many thousands of years has man used horses in war? Hope you have lots of memories with him during the holidays. I sure wish i could spend time with my grandpas now that I am older and understand more about what life was like for them growing up. One of them was a Korean war vet but never talked about it much. Now he is gone.

I think this movie will be good.

We just had a screening of it the other day here at work. It's pretty good; definitely a holiday season film. The WWI depiction is outstanding but not too intense for children. Worth watching.

Re: War Horse, the Movie

I train horses for a living, hate to burst a bubble, but its one of the worst films I have ever seen. Far as the horse goes, their is nothing realistic about it. Why hollyweird keeps turning out this kind of trash, that has barely any basis in reality it beyond me. You couldnt pay me to go see it again, its in my top 5 of worst movies ever.

Re: War Horse, the Movie

I have not seen the movie, but I would imagine it is alright. I collect a lot of war shows and documentaries, but that is one I will probably pass on. I don't like shows that show how animals are pressed into service to do our fighting along with us. It reminds me of the documentary "War Dogs" in the pacific. I broke my heart to see what those dogs went through because us humans can't get along. They did their jobs and a lot of them did not make it out in one piece or alive. To me it would be like putting mentally challenged people in uniform to be cannon fodder, just because they know no better, BUT WE DO. If we humans are dumb enough to go to war and kill each other, than we had better be smart enough to do the killing and dying ourselves. JMHO.
