Any Warhammer nerds here? Not just the books/videos but the tabletop game also? I’m not…yet, but I can feel myself being pulled into it. I’ve read a few of the Black Library publishing books years ago but never really gave it much more of a chance. I’ve watched the Astartes clips on YouTube like a million times and the new Amazon episode is pretty awesome. I can see myself reading tons of the books and any videos they put out but I’m intrigued by the table game as well. I think painting your own pieces and reading the lore from the source could be really cool too.

This video is amazing and not just because it was done by one superfan over several years. It stands on its own. I love the whole thing but I can’t stop watching the fight scene starting at 3:50. Its some of the hardest shit ever

    Bump

In the back of my mind I knew 10:30 pm wasn’t the best time to create this thread. I’ll probably have to bump this again because 1 pm still isn’t the best time to get eyeballs on it. C’mon nerds, I know you’re out there!

The Warhammer ubernerds have the kind of $$ invested in their collections that plenty of gun nerds would balk at
I just look in the boy’s room to see that. I can’t say much though looking back at everything I had for Twilight 2000, Rifts, and Battle Tech.

Those went to the wayside as I started some of the video game versions.

I don't play. Never have. I do watch alot of YouTube and one of the youtubers that I watch has covered some 40k lore. His main channel is Gaijin Goombah. Focused more ninja/ game/ Japanese lore in games and anime.

Started a side channel about more orky stuff. Gim Gam Glitzdakka.

A combined playlist of some of his 40k vids.

If you want to sculpt and paint miniatures Warhammer is great. If you want to actually play a wargame you better be playing with/against friends or else your going to end wasting a ton of time and money arguing about game mechanics with autistic rules lawyers at your local game store.

Check out the trailers for Pariah Nexus on Youtube if you haven't already. You might enjoy it.

Oh, no no no. I will be trying to introduce my kids to the table game first. If they get into it we’ll start going ham, then maybe we will start branching out to others. I’m sure as shit not going to drop $2k and whatever time needed to paint the figures then tell my wife I’m going to some rando’s house to play a board game

Son of Guiliman, how does The Codex advise my next steps?

I haven't played in a very long time but your going to need at least two armies for the kiddos. I'd say your looking at $500 per kid at a bare minimum. Figure two to three infantry squads and maybe a vehicle or two (don't forget the rule sets for each faction and that they change regularly). Then you are going to need paints and assorted paraphernalia. A gaming table (start with a 4x8 and be prepared to go to 4x16) and scenery can be made from scratch fairly affordably.

You could see if any local game stores host tournaments (either 40K or whatever Fantasy turned into) and go watch a tournament round or two and check out the painted miniatures to see if they might be interested.

The same can be said for Battletech. Lots of fun with friends. I prefer the boomertech Intro periods. Had a few soldiers drag a bunch of warhammer 40k tabletop with them to Iraq. Gave them shit to do during downtime. Always loked interesting. The lore is pretty impressive. I read a few of the 40k AD books.

Just watched the Warhammer episode of the ‘Secret Level’ series on Amazon Prime… Each one is only 10-15 minutes long and the ones I’ve watched so far have actually been pretty good; interesting at the very least.

A friend and I got pretty into the books for a while, way back when. Personally I really enjoyed the Caiphas Cain and Gaunt's Ghosts story arcs more than I did the straight up Space Marine stories. Many of the books I have were the 'omnibus' editions - multiple books in one super thick paperback, often with some short stories or novellas thrown in as well. Later, when I looked into getting them on Kindle... there were no 'omnibus' versions, and they were a little too proud of the individual books/stories for my taste at the time. I think they might have reined that in a bit since then.

At one point we were in Scotland for a rifle match outside Blair Athol, and happened to swing thru Edinburgh... that was our first encounter with a Gamestop store. Not a lot of the books, but holy hell were there a *lot* of the miniatures.

Google up "Library Genesis" also known as "LibGen".

Not only will they have the book in question in 40 bazillion iterations, but it will be free in about 9000 different file formats.
Serious, some good shit going on there.

From what I’ve gathered, even with so many books available that pales in comparison to the miniatures and the tabletop game
