Rifle Scopes Was about to buy this but...

That is a great price, but Leupold's have had tracking issues and many have grumbled over the design of those turrets. For the price, check out Minox ZP5 5-25x56 or Schmidt & Bender, the glass will be much better and better reticles too.

I wondered about that. Or for the price I've seen used BEASTs pretty close. The leupold turrets are obnoxious, even on the Mark 4 with M5A2 it was annoying with the push button. Otherwise I've never had an issue with a leupy.

That's a heck of a good deal. Some think the H58 gets to thick at high-mag for small targets but you can have the reticle changed. KSE's evaluation was A+. If you want it you better jump. They only show one in stock.

Mk6s, yes. But Mk8s? I haven't heard of that, and KSE's test specimen scored near the very top in tracking. Have there been other reports of problems?

Good point, I was mostly referring to the Mark 6 issues and it is unfair to judge another line (Mark 8) based on the problems the Mark 6 has.

If you like the reticle and the features, it's not bad. This is starting to approach the price where I'd give it some consideration, though still just a touch high. The MK8 line is very well done and I haven't heard of anyone having tracking issues with those. Still, in this price range, there are many other optics who have a more proven track record. Problem with the MK8 line is that they are way overpriced given the competition at this level and most people just weren't buying them, so a much smaller pool of end users to provide long term feedback.

That is sort of my thinking as well. I have heard nothing but good things about the Mk8, up and down. But, with the Euro moving down in the last year, the German and Austrian scopes have dropped in price (10-25%), and then Vortex pricing is lower, and not to mention some new players like Athlon, and NF upping their game with the ATACR and Burris and Bushnell upping their game, just a little further down the price chain. It is becoming a bit of a buyer's market, and while I have more respect for Leupold than most on this forum, it is very hard to make that case.

The problem is: this was never a $4k scope. And, HATE the wart on the side for the illumination.
