This last year and going into this year has been a challenge for many of us trying to keep enough reloading supplies on hand so we can continue shooting without a pause. Many retailers and resellers have taken advantage of the situation by increasing prices so they can profit from the supply and demand hysteria. There are some retailers who have done the right thing by keeping their prices low the best they can such as WalMart, although upsetting many by limiting the amount of ammo you can buy at one time. One of the local WalMarts in my area even fired two employees who were caught hiding ammo for their friends, and buying it themselves so they could resell it on Gun Broker at a profit.
We all know those companies like Cheaper Than Dirt who crapped on their customers, and became a profit driven monster during times of shortages. However, there are others who have gotten a bad rep because they were or are stilling selling products at higher then normal prices. I believe that Bruno's falls into the later category.
I get down to Phoenix one or two times a year, and have been in Bruno's twice in the past few days as they are very close to McMillan Stocks, and I had to go there today and thought might as well go over to Bruno's again since I'm in the area.
I learned something recently, and gained a little more info today while at Bruno's. I've been buying Bullets, Primers, Powder, and Brass from them for several years now, and at a pretty good price until recently. The past year has been a challenge for almost all of us trying to get Powder, and when we do find it, the price is sometimes higher then we are used to because of various reasons. Back to Bruno's, they are not getting regular shipments of Powders and Primers directly from the manufacturer, and specifically they have not received a direct shipment of Hodgdon powder in over a year. Bruno's is using every source available to get Powder and Primers on their shelves, including getting products from direct competitors, other retailers, and middlemen thus driving up the prices we have to pay.
They still have the best prices around for Lapua Brass, and last week when I was in there, I bought two 250-count boxes of Berger 215 Hybrids for $117 per box. When was the last time you saw a price like that for 215 Hybrids?
So to say the least, at least they are getting what products they can for their customer base.
I've has four 8-lbs jugs of Varget on back-order from Brownells for 15-months now, but they haven't been going to other sources to get powder other than directly from Hodgdon.
