want to read a horror story about water? read "mirage" by Cynthia Barnett pub in '07. will warn you that she is a progressive,CO2,global warming, women's lib wing nut.
she lives in Gainesville and works some pretend job @ UF,so no surprise there. that said,as a life long FL resident,i can say that everything she says about the huge waste and destruction of FL water, over development, loss of habitat, salt encroachment and private/gov corruption is all true. that i know from experience living here > 75 years and from many other sources. she does talk about water in many other places too. seems to me that what is going on in Kali is an example of what she is saying.
as an aside, she has a book about sea shells which having been a collector in the 70s i also have some personal knowledge of. again she over the top flogs the CO2,global warming, fossil fuel narrative. she is from Sanibel and has a lot of personal experience with shells. book contains a lot of truth despite the relentless Greta T type ranting.

Nice, i may check that book out. Over development in my AO is crazy, there is not enough water here for all these assholes coming. Our area told the farmers they were going to cut water off, never mind the local walgreens sprinklers running in the road..... Corruption is blatant here as well. Oh, and this area has an obsession as of late to build a fkn car wash on every corner. I have no idea when car washes became 25$ or why everyone needs a car wash everyday but its a thing apparently.

Funny the car washes are mentioned. I thought it was just my area of the country that they were sprouting up like wild weeds.. About 2 miles from me there are 3 within a 1/4-1/2 mile stretch . The latest one was built on what I'd call some pretty pricey and desirable land.

When my wife retired from the local utility couple years ago, there were over 50k open building permits, just in the West end of Orange county, FL.
How long until our well pump is going to be pumping air, instead of water?

One of the utility water plants had to go through over an additional year delay to drill more wells.
First, a study was required by the regulators - discovered that Gopher Tortoises live here......
Gopher tortoises on the property had to be located, trapped and moved to a different location.
AND
The damn things can't even swim.....

Urban hellscape enthusiast have zero concept of the waste they produce, nor do they care. I meet people regularly that regard themselves "environment friendly" and drink exclusively water from plastic water bottles. Not just the fancy water either. Plain ol dollar general bottled water. They couldnt be bothered to refill a gallon jug. Its crazyness..... People are fkd up.....

It amazes me that we don't have the common sense Mexico has. While fishing of their coast we passed a desalinization plant operating on the beach. Cali & FL could easily do the same (among a long list of other mitigating options). We had one on the boat. You'd never know it was ocean water we were drinking.
