Marshall Steen, founder of Steen Cannons and a restoration professional of the highest caliber... passed on yesterday.

His son, Will Steen, will carry on the family tradition.

Steen Cannons are considered the absolute top of the food chain when it comes to quality and accuracy in their restorations. The barrels they cast are without peer.

Anyway... a great loss to the vintage and re-enactor communities.

I never met the man, though he cast one of my barrels and has another one in process. Young guy. Yeah, older than me. But young guy.

I sent a note to Will this morning. I'll be visiting their works in April to pick up a barrel. First time I will see their works. I just wish I could have met Will.

In memorium,

We have a local civil war celebration one town over, in philippi wv. I wonder if that's why I know the name?
