Folks, I need a comparo between the two.
If you only have experience with one, chime in as I need a decision on an optic for a DMR,this rifle will primarily serve as a patrol rifle and may occasionally be pressed into service as a short range precision rifle.

Not looking at the 1-4x range (not an absolute) would prefer top end of 5x or more.
Can't afford a short dot or any other premium priced optic.
Would normally consider the vortex razor (top of the price bracket), but don't care for the reticle.

Other, quality optics within a resonable + - of 1000 will be considered.

    MUST HAVES:
    1X
    Illuminated reticle
    min 4x at top end
Must be a flexible reticle, CQB and precision

    Thanks

I have a SS 1-6 sitting in a box. I've looked through it but have nothing similar compare it to. I haven't mounted it yet.
It is a nice piece, I had an old aim point and ACOG before.
Your welcome to look through mine. I'm in corpus.

I have run a Burris XTR 1x4 , an ACOG TA33R8 and have looked through the SWFA ss1x4. I sold the ACOG because I really wanted 1x and more magnification. I sold the Burris XTR 1x4 because it was a little to long and a bit too heavy. I am currently running a Weaver Tactical 1x5 with the illuminated CIRT reticle, It compares at the very least equally to the SWFA-ss1x4 in clarity , performs better at medium(100yards) and long range(300yards). i am very happy with the Weaver's bang for the buck being a 1x5, great build quality and it is a compact scope at about 9.5 inches. The SWFA scope may be a bit quicker close up with its circke dot reticule.. but it also costs about 150 bucks more.

Not alot of folks using Weaver scopes it seems, seems a shame considering the bang for the buck.. After i get back the $100 dollar rebate the scope will have cost me $568

I can't speak to this particular model but would agree the Weavers are pretty good value for the spend. I had the 3-10 mil/mil on my 308 before an upgrade and was very impressed with the glass and performance for the dollars. If you are on a budget it's a brand to consider.

I just mounted a SS 1-6 on my AR but have yet to run a match with it. I ditched an ACOG TA-33 for the option of variability and bigger reticle. I like the fact that the 1x sort of resembles an Eotech (what i have been running) but on full zoom the enhanced crosshairs are great as well for longer shots. I look forward to putting it through its paces.

Have a Weaver 1-5 tactical, I like most things about it except for some reason when i go from 4 to 5 power i can't keep the retical and the image in focus. One or the other is slightly off no matter how i adjust the diopter. It's darn aggrevating, 4 power and below it is okay. Maybe it's just mine that does that but i consider it a 1-4 power because how it performs.

I can only comment on the SS 1-6, not having seen the Weaver firsthand. Overall, it's a great scope. The one thing I don't like is the reticle from 3-5X. The aiming circle that works so well @ 1X blocks the sight view. But @6X it's gone, of course. And that leads to a general comment or two: Get the most mag range you can. In use, the reticle issue I mentioned wouldn't bother me. All my shots would either be 1X or 6X. Using 2.5-10s and 3-15s for hunting, I've taken a few shots at the low end, a lot at the high end and none in between. Heck, I'd be happy if there was just a mechanism to flip between 1 and 6.

The SS 1-6 is a very well-constructed scope, has great turrets and illumination (none of the slight bleed noticeable with the SS 5-20). It's a winner for a lot of scenarios. (In my case, I just sold the one I got because I also picked up the SS 3-15 and I'm just hopelessly in love with 3-15 scopes...and not enough rifles to need both. It was still a hard choice because the 1-6 is that good).

    SS 1-6

Go home happy I promise you.... I am completely stoked over mine. Can't tell you anything about the weaver. What about the bushy 1-6.5?

Azimutha pretty much said what I think of SS 1-6 already, and the glass is great!! One thing it needs is mag lever.

I also have a SS 12x, love it. At this moment I am seriously considering doing the SWFA trade in program for the SS 3-15... I'm pissed at my wife, she should just pull the fucking tooth instead of busting 1100 out of me.

I must say, that reticule for the 1x6 SS scope looks just about perfect, it costs a good amount more than my weaver 1x5 ( $400)... but I would have opted for it instead if it were available.
