I have a chance to pic up a new Weaver 4-20X "tactical scope" for a really good price....but...first off I never knew Weaver made tactical scopes. In fact I always kinda considered them pretty low end scopes.

My buddy has a one of the Weaver fixed (36X ??) bench scopes and it is nice glass. But outside of that I know nothing about them.

Has anyone had any first hand experiences with these new tactical models?

Even though it is a good deal...if they are not good glass then it is a waste of any money in my opinion.

Input welcome.

Take care,Stan

Re: Weaver Tactical Scope???

Not sure on the tactical line, but a couple of good friends of mine shoot them. They mount them on the gantry varible mount cause they can't get enough elevation out of them (not the tactical line). I looked thru them and the glass looks good. They shoot them at the Hardrock matches out to 1k no problem. They say they like them cause of price and the good glass at low cost since they have the mount to take care of the elevation problem.

Re: Weaver Tactical Scope???

I have one of the old versions that I picked up for my AR, back in the day. Got it for Nachezss for $325. Its a Mildot, FFP scope.

Good- Very good glass, every bit as clear as my Nightforce. Good clicks, very repeatable, used extensivly dinking around from 50 to 1000 yards, with no problems in tracking. Mildot is accurate, hass withstood years of abuse on my hunting rifle.

Negatives- 1/8 min. clicks, on my model. Dont like the objective focus, but thats just my preferance, limited elevation and windage travel, I am not sure what the total is, but from my zero, I only have about 23 minutes of elevation, but I am not using a canted base, so that can be overcome, but the purpose of this scope for me is not 1000 yard shooting.

If the price is right, its a good scope. Weaver has and always had great little scopes, with great warranties and no questions asked customer service.

I have no experiance with the current model with the lower turets. For $500 you can get a few better scopes than this for tactical shooting, but the internal travel and 1/8 clicks leave a lot to be desired for me.

Re: Weaver Tactical Scope???

This is the model I am being offered...but not for that price. I can not believe someone would pay that much for this scope.

But again...for the price I can get it for it seems like a decent scope. I would be using it in a AR for target/plinking to 500 yrds.

Stan,

I picked up one about a month ago and have not had an opportunity to mount it yet. The glass looks quite good. It has an FFP mildot and the turrets are not the same quality as a scope costing 2-3 times the price, but they seem OK. Over all, and not seeing the new Vortex FFP scopes yet, I think it a good value for around $700 for an FFP scope. If it tracks well then I would have no problem recommending it.
