Weird Twist Phenomenon

I met a fella that said he's using barrels that are 3 grove as opposed to 4 or 5 grove. He states that by using a 3 grove he gets at least 150 fps move velocity with the same charges. Anyone else have any experience with it? Just trying to broaden my knowledge base on the subject.

Benchmark barrels, make 2, 3 and 6 groove barrels I believe. Their rimfire barrels have been winning championships for years and their centerfire barrels are quickly gaining a following.

I guess all I want to know is if indeed you end up with more velocity with a 3 groove

I know the 3 land barrel last longer. ive used them in the big mags i own. sorry i dont have any hard data on them being faster

Yes, the 3 grooves will get you more velocity. Lawton makes some 3 groove barrels, as well. Give Bobby a call about them.

I would highly doubt that one groove differance could dissipate that much energy.

Where did the energy go?

Does it improve the efficiency of the gas seal?
