Well should I be surprised with new outboard motors these days??

If they run anything like the older Seven-Marine 627s they will be hanging off the back of everything this year. LOL

Here's some old 557s running out...

When I was stationed at the dive school in panama city, FL, we were practicing doing beaching with the zodiacs with the students. Well somehow we had a motor get ripped off and sunk. We spent 3 days diving for it.

Yep, really liking my Yamaha 115 right now..... 60 gallons in the tank 2 times a year and I’m good. I don’t have to get there that fast. Plus, I’ll HAVE to buy a Yeti because I’ll need to start budgeting for ice.

Nuts and built for all the huge center consoles they are building these days. I bought my current 32' offshore rig in 2009 with twin Yamaha 350's and they were big then. You can't imagine the number of big CC's I see running around with more money in motors alone than my whole rig cost new.

I had the opposite experience with HPDI's. Had 2 and went through 3 powerheads......two way off the hill. No thanks. The Yamaha and Suzuki 4 strokes are what is on every commercial boat I ever see.

Interesting. The HDPIs are one of the most reliable engines made. And easy to wrench on out on the water. I’d hate to limp back 150 miles on one screw. 4 strokes suck to work on.

I am the diesel mechanic at a very predominant boat yard in Maine for high end Yacht storage, repair, and maintenance. As of right now all of our power boat clients are inboard diesel powered, but I keep hearing rumors that these 35’ and larger power boats that have been diesel are going to be coming out with dual up to quad outboard gas. We have several of the dual and quad Verado powered boats and they seem to be popular. I have seen the Volvo Cadillac Northstar powered outboard when I go to training in Chesapeake @ Volvo NA, it is a serious hot rod OB!

The HPDI 150/200 were very reliable. The 250/300 HPDIs were awful and many grenaded early in their life. The ones that have survived (with all the recalls/updates) require meticulous attention to ALL the fuel filters, very specific 2S oil or they will grenade.

i see stuff like this and i ask myself...where the fuck does all that money come from? most days i feel like i am from a different planet. i’ll be sticking with my canoe and paddle.

All that GDP growth which didn't end up in the pockets of the working man still had to go somewhere.

I don’t know much about outboard engines, so when they say 600hp, are they talking 600 at the prop? And if so, how much hp are they losing between the transmission and the prop.

We have a 29’ with twin 300 yamahas on it. Paid half for the same amount of HP.

Merc built something to compete with 7 Marine, and yet 7 is no longer in production.
