We'll another Mule Deer season draws to a close in West Texas. This is my 6th year going out to my Father-in-laws place out near Big Bend, and it is always a good time. Nothing quite as good as cooking over the fire (and propane burners), sleeping in a Army tent, drinking a lot of beer in the evenings, going 7 days without a shower, and digging a hole to drop a duece. I thought i'd post some pics. To me it is beautiful out there - are harsh kind of beautiful that could sting, bite, poke, kill ya LOL.

You can make some time on I-10

Re: West Texas Hunt '10

I love it too. It's nice to leave everything behind and enjoy the beauty and quiet. Although I'd hate to be there in the summer.

I shot a 6 point Mule deer the first morning. There were 2 bucks looking at me when I walked over a ridge. I didn't even see them at first, till one of them moved. I was standing there debating wether to wait for something bigger when they started to move. As they were about to drop off the back side of the plateau, the rifle went to my shoulder, and I shot the bigger of the 2. I regretted it at the time, but I only saw a spike after that. I'm out of meat in freezer, so I guess it was a good thing. One of the guys shot a 200lb plus 8 point on top of a mountain near camp. After being out there for a few years, it's all about being at the right place at the right time.

Congrats on the success!

I do some whitetail hunting outside Iraan, but I haven't made it all the way to mulie country. One day I'll make it to mulie country.
