What’s the difference between SK Rifle Match and Long Range Match?

Out of my Vudoo with 22” MTU barrel:

My Long Range Rifle Match is in a black box with gold lettering. It shoots very well in my rifle (At least out to 320yds), even tho I am not the best shot. Here is my LR Rifle Match, 5 shots with a cold clean bore shot

This is Center X with the clean cold bore shot removed (I have shot it out to 275yds):

The Rifle Match (Black w/red lettering) shoots the same in my rifle as the LR Match.

They are using 26" barrel length and getting 1073fps. I've got it listed in my solver as 1071fps (spitting out solid data for me).

Odd thing...

Their numbers convert to 2.1 at 100yds off a 50yd zero. My gun with a 18" barrel showing identical speed is like 1.6 at 100yds.

yea here at altitude of 5400’ I’m usually getting 1.6-1.7 MIL at 100yd with center-x which typically chronos around 1100-1110 FPS for me. The 1073 number for the slower SK products almost matches what I get when I chrono it with an average of 1068 FPS through a vudoo 18” and a tikka 20”.

The difference?

The label on the box and a couple fps.
Results will vary according to batch quality, not labeling.
Whichever shoots better this trip to the range,
may or may not on the next. Both are a midgrade 22lr
made at the SK/Lapua factory in Schoenbeck.

From SKs website and an unknown magazine article I don’t know to credit. EDIT ADD: magazine article is g&a.com

So SK has 2 batch runs - 1073 and 1106 fps.

1073 goes from Red -> Yellow -> Pistol Match -> Magazine

1106 goes from Long Range match -> Biathlon Sport -> Pistol Match Special

From my experience I can tell that either due to some process failure or just a regular fimfire quirk, their test bench cannot really determine lots from best to worst. It may have some correlation, but in my testings I have not noticed this AT ALL.

I have ditched last 3 or 4 SK Long Range lots and bought all of the Pistol Match Special as it shoots nearly as good as Tenex. Tested another lot as good also but had to save some money for a new project.

I'm having difficulty dealing with the published velocities that various manufacturers print on the ammo boxes. I bought some Eley Match rated for anywhere from 1070 to 1082 fps. They all shot 1134-1154 fps in my Anschutz 20 inch barrel. SK Match shot in that same velocity area too. I don't know the length of the manufacturers test barrels, but probably 26 inches or so which might explain the lower velocity. I think the velocities in the transonic range contributes to less accuracy. So far, this "match" ammo doesn't impress me that much.

thats very odd and really spicy for eley and sk match which are typically in the 1060-1100 depending on temp

Almost all 22lr is running at transonic velocities the moment they leave the muzzle.
How the frog can that be I asked? The transonic zone is from 900 to 1352 feet per second I was answered.
But....but....but....that means all the 22lr in my stash is going to be affected by transonic turbulence!
Not so says Doc McCoy at the Aberdeen Ballistics lab.
The transition has "insignificant" effect on accuracy and wind drift with the 22lr.

Well dayum....now I'll have to find something else to blame poor results with hi-v ammo on. :cautious:

What? It's Monday, I needed to break up the monotony at the office.

That's the range for Eley match and Tenex that I also got from my cz457 with a 16.5" barrel.
