Suppressors what a shame.............

During an operation run by the county, I was one of a few leos running a gun buy back program. As a firearm fanatic its such a shame to see some of these pieces of history gone to waste, as all these guns will be eventually melted down. Ive got more pics but i just have to upload them

how much would one of those 1911s bring in? just out of curiousity

not that a striker is a historic piece, but its still pretty sweet.

a few things in that bunch were US m1 carbines, colt pythons, a daewoo k2, several derringers, mini 14s, garands, an arisaka with the jap emperor stamp, more to come when i can think of it.

I'm going to pay for some advertising in the local paper.

GUN BUY BACK....and then have a couple LEO buddies tell me they are happy for me...then I can put LEO APPROVED

Technically neither statement is a lie. It looks like there are a lot of crappy guns turned in, but I might get a few good ones too.

What if a person were to watch what was being brought in and make a better offer to the owner? If the people aren't taking care of the firearms and don't know what they're worth, I doubt that they'd be cased while being transported. I've seen a number of stories similar to this over the years and it understandably gets the blood boiling.

Jeez, Jersey Mike, please tell me that those double diamond grips, original Colt mags etc are going to "fall off" before those guns go into a smelter.

Not that I need an original set of grips for my 1912 manufactured 1911 hint, hint.

Just wanted to clarify that I'm not suggesting trying to do anything potentially illegal, just wondering if there would/could be any issue with making the owners a better offer. The transaction could be run through an FFL and all appropriate paperwork and background checks done in front of the seller to assure them of the fact that the sale is on the up and up.

Just a thought.

Yea you have to question with the internet and everyone knowing what everything cost and is worth with the swipe of a few keys where those guns come from. I don't see granny just having a tec-9 laying around she no longer wants. People turn in $600 assault shotguns for 200 bucks when they were not theirs to begin with. They should call it the supporting local criminals program.

WTF funds this?

Is this tax payer money? If so, how does the budget allocation process go? b/c I am sure there are a whole hell of a lot of other unfunded liabilities in the city's budget.

If it isn't - which left wing group? And b/c this is an agenda item between said left wing group and the powers that be - LE involvement should be voluntary and they should be compensated for their time directly by the leftist. The leftists should also be responsible for the venue and the liability.


So wrong on so many levels.

The problem with programs like this is when the buy back thing got announced (out in California of course) gun theft went up tenfold. Which also led to a huge increase of 'inside the house' assualts.

And yes this is wrong as piss on your Sunday dinner. Does LE hold a scrap drive of abandoned cars sitting ion someones property? Do they take away cars from assholes that continue to drink and drive??? There are still way more deaths on the road from stupidity than from killers with handguns.

the program was funded by the county prosecutors office by use of seized illegal funds, not tax payer dollars. theirs some articles on it on the web, ill have to dig it up

Note the fundamental mindset: Gun = Death. Someone should explain Return On, and esp. Return Of Investment to that barrister. Somehow I think it would be a waste of breath.

As noted the taxpayer at least pays the front pay on this one. If they even get it back. To be fair though we, the civilian population, complain about all kinds of things. Even though things like prosecuting criminals costs the City/County/State/Federal Government money. Above and beyond the normal costs of regular taxpayer funding. Keeping that on track is tightwire act like many would never believe. While I don't agree at all with buybacks, they really aren't the huge expenditures compared to other 'costs' incurred.

On {edit: <span style="text-decoration: line-through">another</span> similar} note: We recently had an issue here where the Twins got a new stadium based on St. Paul raising the money by adding a .3 cent tax. Problem was...that is how the city is going to pay the State back. The STATE funded the program (100's of millions) to build the stadium. Note: the owner of the Twins was Carl Pohlad. He made his money in Northwest Airlines raping the Minnesota taxpayer(Federal too). He got more than 1/2 Billion free gratis in grants and loans forgiven. Not to mention expensive facilities built for them by the State and not paid for. Then dumped back on the State without the {edit: <span style="text-decoration: line-through">full time</span> lease being fulfilled}.

So, while I strongly disagree with gun buybacks in both the financial and political arenas, as well as the aesthetic reasons, they are hardly the major "giveaway" that other programs are..

If the prosecutor was being genuine in his comment that <span style="font-style: italic">The best thing money can buy is saving a life. If we can save one life through this program, it is clearly money well spent.</span> then some simple ratio analysis would clearly show that more lives could be "saved" via numerous alternate investments.

The Boys and Girls Club will save more lives with less money than this did.
