BAT Machine. Its all ill use. Is one better than the others? It depends on who you talk to. Each apparently has its own accolades. Personally, I feel the machining of the BAT actions are superb. Butter Butter Butter smooth. There is a reason most benchrest shooters use them. But on the hide, you will hear everyone say that their tolerances are too tight, and that they will jam in the field if even the smallest piece of dust gets in them. I can tell you from personal experience that this is untrue. All of my hunting rifles have BAT actions on them. And all of my buddies hunting rifles have BAT actions on them. My gunsmiths hunting rifle has a BAT action on it. Not once have any of us had a problem with them jamming or getting locked up. And we hunt in the dirt, mud, rain, snow, etc...

The Stiller Tac 30, Rem 700 (blueprinted) and the AIAW actions are all used by the military and have undergone rigorous field testing and combat deployment.

The surgeon actions have an integrated 20moa rail and a couple of other custom features that many people like for their new builds.

The thread I linked is a good discussion siting the various merits of different actions.

I own a Rem 700, a Templar (GA Precision) and a Stiller Tac 30 and have never had any problems with any of them.

Re: What action for new build?

Yes my gunsmith is local. he is located in Dayton PA. PM me if you want his info. I have some links to guns hes built for guys on 6mmbr.com. hes a great guy, builds some super accurate rigs. The 300winmag he built me is 1/2moa or better. Hes built guns on all the actions mentioned above, but BAT is most common by far.
