What are the opinions of the CZ 557 Urban Counter sniper rifle

Yeah I have almost convinced myself to order one but I have decided to see if I can get some opinions and thoughts first.
If the quality is like that of the CZ 550 I used to have, I would not hesitate to buy one.
Crisp, fully adjustable trigger, no pot metal anywhere, Manners stock, cold hammer forged barrel with flash suppressor. I mean, what does it need besides a scope and a bipod?

Does the 16in barrel cause any concern? I know it is not meant for extreme long range but what can I realiatically expect from the 16" barrel?

There seems to be a lot of gunsmiths that won't (can't) do anything but a 700/700 clone.
But it's not impossible to find someone who will rebarrel a CZ 557. I bet someone like Mark Gordon (Short Action Customs) or Chad Dixon (Long Rifles Inc) would take a stab it. Also, CZ-USA has a custom shop that without a doubt can put whatever barrel you want on it.
I've got other CZ rifles and think they are very nice. The urban sniper looks great as long as you want it in 308
For the intended purpose of the rifle (400-500yds and under) I think 308 is a good round for it.

The urban sniper was nothing but a varmint kevlar, with the barrel cut back and a surefire brake installed.
The price was substantially higher for the urban sniper and, to me, not worth the extra coin. it didn't help that the surefire brake was completely useless to me.
I ended up going another route, but the do make nice stuff.
Personally, I would look at the Varmint Kevlar (if they still make it) and have it cut back.

This rifle is exceptionally hard to find anywhere. I just ordered one tonight for an excellent price from riflegear.com. Once, I get it out to the range I will let you know how it performs. Interesting rifle kind of a niche gun if you ask me, but I’ve been wanting to get myself a short handy midrange tack driver. I’m hoping this does the trick.
Got my 557 UCS today. Let me tell you gents this rifle is handy lightweight well balanced and I cannot wait to throw some glass on it and put in some work.
Just mounted my glass on the CZ 557 UCS. Went with the Leupold MK 4 LR/T 4.5x14x50 mounted in a Larue LT120 with TMR reticle and M1 turrets. I’m more than aware that the 1/4 MOA adjustments don’t bode well with a Milradian reticle, but I’m somewhat old school and have always been partial to the MK4 lineup. Hopefully I’ll get a range report up soon.
You're not the only one. I have tried to convince my brother that matching the reticle subtensions to the adjustment makes things far easier. He refuses to switch. He also doesn't see the benefit of FFP.
It absolutely makes things far easier. I agree 100%. I’d like to hear his argument on how FFP is not beneficial, that is quite interesting. It certainly has it’s benefits, it also has it’s downfalls in low powered optics such as a 1x4 and even a 1x6 dependent of course on the intended use of the scope and rifle in question. I wish Leupold had matched the sub tensions to the reticle from the get go with the Mark 4 lineup, if they had done that, and made the switch to FFP much faster they’d still be at the top of the food chain in American optics. That shortcoming has most definitely led to a decline in interest of their products in the Mark 5 and Mark 6 lineup. They fixed the issue much too late in the game.
It uses proprietary mags in both a 10 round and flush 4 round configuration. Pictured below is the 10 rounder that the rifle ships with.
I was teetering on the exact same rifle, and I went with the CZ based solely on what I actually wanted to get out of this rifle. Obviously the Tikka is exceptionally better for shooting long range, the CZ though filled a specific role for me, which is why I decided on that.
Adding an AICS bottom metal is as easy as a trip to CDI if the CZ mags are an issue.
