What are you using?

So I competed in the MLSC this year for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it and want to compete in more matches like this or NRL Hunter style matches. My question to yall is what calibers are you shooting when competing in these. I am trying to finalize a build plan for a new rifle. I have been thinking about 6.5 PRC, 7 PRC or even 280 A.I.

Thanks in advance

If I were building a rifle for NRL Hunter I would say 6.5 Creed is the easy button. The power factor requirement favors being able to shoot heavier bullets in the 147-156gr range and 6.5 Creed will get those bullets to the necessary speed without too much effort and without being overkill or overpressure.

Bigger caliber rifles like the ones you mention aren't really an advantage from a competitive standpoint because they have more recoil. You definitely see them at matches, but mostly from guys who already have a good hunting rifle and who want to use it in competition. If you're wanting to build a hunting rifle to also compete with, then they would be a fine choice. If you're wanting to build a NRL Hunter competition rifle that you might also hunt with, then 6.5 Creed is probably better.

Great bullets of all classes nearly. Your participating in a game. I recommend something that is immediately more competitive. Take the shooter way out of the equation and get a rifle/caliber that will suite the hobby.

It will still be a gun that can take animals of many sizes. The calibers you mention are great medium/large animal calibers I think.

The targets are steel and there's no power factor. 6.5 cut through the wind just fine. It's wind calls that get ya.

And hey the Army is switched to them at some units already. It's inherently snipery now
