What case trimmer are you using?

Hey guys,

I have been using an older RCBS motorized trimmer for a few years. Until recently, I have just been trimming 223/308, but I acquired a 338 Lapua. A lapua case will not fit in this trimmer so it’s time to go shopping. Doing some reading I’ve noticed that many prefer the Guiard. The triway looks good but are there any other good options that you recommend to use on both my 338 as well as my mouse fart calibers? Thank you in advance.

I'm a Giraud (Edit: Power Trimmer, not the tri-way) user and you won't find anything that can handle the calibers as easily or as quickly as the Giraud. It takes me less than 2 minutes to go from 6XC to 300 NM. Plus, the ability to trim, chamfer, and debur in seconds makes it all worthwhile. Save up, if you have to. The Giraud is worth it!

I use a Giraud Tri-Way trimmer for the one caliber I load for. It does a very good job and fast and saves time by performing the three different tasks at once. If I had more than one caliber that I load, I'd go with a Trim It 2 as it does the same kind of job as the Giraud and with much the same carbide cutter but has dies that one can change out for each caliber. But if one is trimming a large amount of various calibers, then the Giraud Power Trimmer would be the way I'd go.

I've used a Wilson for decades and it has served well, with no real complaints. I may look into a Giraud Tri-Way at sometime and run off a cheap bench top drill press or just pony up for the Giraud Power trimmer.

I use the Lyman case trim express. It trims to the thousand case to case as long as your brass is all the same head space because it indexes off the shoulder. The adjustment are marked to the thousand and on my unit there accurate. It’s fast, trims smooth, and not too noisy. O ya it’s reasonable priced.

Giraud triway for high volume and Wilson for precision

Giraud triway for high volume and Wilson for precision

I had gone with a Wilson for precision and it did as well as I had hoped. It's precision is measured from case base to the mouth and independent of where the shoulder is located. I still have my Wilson trimmer, but it's collecting dust these days having gone with a Giraud trimmer that set the case length based on where the shoulder it set. I like the latter not just because of time saved, but I feel the way the Giraud stops the cut produces more consistent cartridge performance, I guess because one needs to me sure there's consistent head space to get consistent case length. I find I actually get just as consistent case lengths with my Giraud as I have with my Wilson. :giggle:
