I have an old 30-30 I would like to paint the field sights on. What color is best?

Black steel is not visible in low light.
White gets lost in snow.
Red? Yellow?

Should I paint the front and rear sights differend colors?

I am NOT changing the sights from the origonals. Fiber optics is not an option.

It's all personal choice. You're simply going to have to find what works for you. For example yellow could be good for some but for me isn't great because it gets lost and bright conditions.

White dot on the front sight, white line beneath the notch or a white dot on either side for the rear could work. If you did want to change the sights to something more traditional, an ivory or brass bead would be visible without wrecking the aesthetics.

Maybe think about getting some night sights for it. Why you won't be using the weapon at night those night sights have a great contrast against background. Additionally, if you're in early morning late evening hours they will really help.

Before I painted my pistol sights I made a little tool with a bunch of different color posts glued onto a stick that I could hold out & compare the different colors in different lighting conditions, on different backgrounds, etc. For me, the green color stood out the best across the widest range of situations.
