What happened to the 25 WSSM

Re: What happened to the 25 WSSM

I have an AR-15 in 25Wizzer and it is a friggin' coyote & deer hammer. Pretty much a 9.5lb semi-auto .25-06, for comparison...

Re: What happened to the 25 WSSM

I think initially they were sent out with the wrong twist and werent that accurate or something to that effect. I have a friend with a custom built one and its a hammer. For some reason the factory sticks never seemed to have took off though.

Re: What happened to the 25 WSSM

I have one I purchased threeyears ago in a Browning A Bolt and with a 100 grain Barnes Triple shock it puts 'em down and is a tack driver. I was trying to help a friend find one for his son and couldn't find one anywhere, not even listed as a chambering on Brownings web site. I thought you guys might be able to tell me what happened to them. I guess I better be ordering some brass.

Re: What happened to the 25 WSSM

The 25 WSSM got necked up and down, but the cartridge itself is quickly fading away. Its a good parent case nonetheless..sees a bit of wildcatting on the AR platform.

Re: What happened to the 25 WSSM

Most rifle makers are no longer chambering for the 25 WSSM. I recently did a load work up on one. My customer is a freak about quarter bore rifles, and found one new that had been on the shelf for a long time. I wasn't too impressed with it. I'd much rather have a 25-06 in a bolt gun. In a semi auto, it would be pretty sweet.

Re: What happened to the 25 WSSM

reeljob,

IMO,the WSSM brass is VERY inconsistent in quality.I've messed around with 223WSSM and 243WSSM.Both were the worse brass I've come across.Half the brass wouldn't fit in different brand shell holders.Necks were uneven by 2.5 thou.flash holes not centered.I could even roll the brass on a flat surface and they were clearly not concentric.

I think that might have contributed to the fall to obscurity.

Re: What happened to the 25 WSSM

I have an AR in the 25 WSSM. I took an 11 point 150lb field dress whitetail this fall. I used a 120gr factory load for a one shot kill. he took three steps and fell and didn't move again. I don't know what ballistics some have used, but with a 115 Berger VLD leaving the barrel at 3000FPS, at 600yds it will still be at 1998fps with 1019ft/lbs of energy. I really don't think that is to bad for a 25 cal.
